On Entertainment News on Arena last night there was a bit about the Logies they showed Damien singing and said, there was barely a dry eye in the house when Damien Leith sang a moving tribute to the talent we have lost. Hey Zeeta, I saw that this morning on Arena too (repeats on Fox are a bonus sometimes) and they were right too....who wouldn't of needed a tissue after that emotional, moving performance! ;D yes I saw this too --- not a dry eye indeed - off to watch again

I actually felt bad for her that Channel 9 and RAY FRIGGEN MARTIN used her and her ordeal to get yet another Logie. It took away from the meaning of it all and turned it into a show rather than the serious issue it really was. ( I know, Ray Martin recieved that award because of her LOSS and then...they still used her grief for extra Ratings and focused the cameras on her while showing the clips. I don't think he should of received that award either. John Stainton was furious that Channel Nine did that. And Ray Martin's acceptance speech was probably the most nauseating part of the night. He should have just thanked Terri for doing the interview and left it at that. The only person who deserved an award was her - as if it was about the freaking quality of the camera work or the music anyway? I agree with everything you've said Oz, Roxy & Kami. Ray Martin's speech was appalling- as if the power/impact of the interview had anything to do with Ray or his camera people -my cat could have done the interview and it would have still been a moving and rivetting experience. And to show tha particular part of the show was pure sensationalism and so utterly offensive to Terri that it's no wonder she left straight after. It just goes to show what is really in the minds of these "caring" reporters when they do these sort of stories. In my opinion there should never be an award for reporting on someone's raw grief.

There was a report in our paper that Channel 9 thought that Terri was leaving after the tribute to Steve, and didn't think she would be there for that award - don't know what the truth is.
BUT......she chose to do that interview with Ray Martin, so I don't think she can really be surprised if they show bits of it. I'm sorry if I upset anyone but I think those kind of interviews are intrusive and I never understand why bereaved people agree to do them.

I think people's brains just go a little awry when they've lost someone important to them, and aren't always able to think of the long-term consequences of their actions. I can understand why Terri might have wanted to do the interview just to have someone to talk to about what she was feeling, to honour Steve, whatever - no doubt it made sense to her at the time.
In any case it was a choice she made at a particularly vulnerable time of her life, and I'm sure she knows she can't escape it permanently, but to present it in that manner, as some kind of trophy for a television network's cabinet, seems so disrespectful, whether they expected her to see it or not.

Fair enough Kami, you're right about the vulnerability. (I should add that I have rather peculiar views about the rituals and such associated with death. It annoys me that people have 'passed' rather than 'died' - stuff like that. So I am not the best person to be commenting on this kind of thing - and thus will now shut up :-))

I felt that Terri did the interview because of the overwhelming outpouring of feelings from the public - that perhaps she felt a need to "respond". I also felt that she may have thought Ray Martin was "safe" and that she could trust him.... (obviously only my take on things)
Sadly we're a voyeuristic society these days and while ever the media keep churning it out, the public will keep lapping it up.

On Sydney FM radio earlier this week, they were chatting about the Logies, and one of the DJs said Damien's performance was the highlight of the evening - nice to hear!

Another thing that intrigues me is that Damien didn't get a standing ovation. If not for Damien, then for the various artists on screen. Do you think the audience may have fallen into 'teh coma' and were numb?

Excellent Sunshine, I was suprised not hear more about Damiens performance (either news or radio) as I felt what he did, was just amazing and hard to do. ;D Braffy, I think you might be right a standing ovation would of seemed very appropriate I would think.... But we are talking Logies here!! The audience were all probably scrambling for tissues and didn't want the camera's on their tear stained made-up faces if they all stood up!!

Is it just me or should Terri Irwin be told to stop exploiting her daughter so much? That Bindi needs to be told to stop being so precocious and concentrate on being a kid while she can. I actually changed the channel when that hideous child came running onto the stage.

I actually changed the channel when that hideous child came running onto the stage. It's just you...crankypants! ;D I think she's adorable and smart and full of the joy of life that her father had. I don't think anyone should quell that. It remains to be seen what will happen to her later in life but I think she is doing okay so far.

I think her behaviour is nauseous and one day it's all going to hit her and she is going to have major problems. As for Terri allowing this to go on, at best it's misguided and at worst it's exploitative and unthinking.
But hey, I'm cranky!

It's not just you cranky, I agree with you, I felt the same. :::everyone hates me now:::
But we say this in respect of caring about her future, right?

Do you think the audience may have fallen into 'teh coma' and were numb? Braffy what I think happened was it was a similar effect to when we saw Damien sing the same song at the concerts - it's such a spellbinding song, I think it carries people away into their own contemplations, and watching and thinking about the people who were featured in the tribute. So, I think it was more a mood of stillness & reflection at the end than an ovation type moment.
