Hi guys! I'm just back online, sorry we didn't get back earlier, our Hut went to 3am! I'll write about the brilliant hut in the other threads later, but wanted to say how much we all loved seeing Damien singing last night!! We didn't get to see him at all apart from onstage, but that was to be expected as we knew he wasn't well. He came on first, then there were 3 other acts. Back in a moment!

Damien's first song was Nat King Cole's "When I Fall in Love, It Will Be Forever", followed by "Summertime" which had "Moondance" by Van Morrison in the arrangement as well (all glorious!) and was sort of the way Damien merges Fall at Your Feet with With or Without You, all really seamless.

The stage design was sooooooooooooooo beautiful! It was all black curtain with sparkly stars in it (like Swoon City) and a grand piano in the middle (all the other performers used the piano) and above the piano was a huge red ribbon in sparkly lights, and the stage was framed 4 ways by big crossed over red ribbons, from floor to about 5 metres high I suppose, like the way a present is wrapped up in ribbon - oh it looked so beautiful!!!!!
Wanted to take a pic so badly but the tickets had in big bold letters NO PHOTOGRAPHY and there were lots of ushers so we didn't want to get in trouble.
Peter Coussens (so gorgeous) came on and introduced everyone and Damien was first and apologised that he had a cold, he had a cup of lemon and honey with him on stage.
Though he said that and we had been worried about him performing when he felt so sick, we were all thrilled to see him and oh his voice was beautiful as always. The sound in the theatre was A+++++ I think possibly the best sound I have heard of a Damien show yet, really rich acoustic tone.
I loved the arrangements he gave to the songs, he was playing his flame guitar as he sat on a stool and spoke how he used to listen to these songs from his Mum & Dad's collection and loves to sing them now. He apologised to not finish with a musical song as his voice was wearing from being sick and he did a lovely rendition of Hallelujah.
SO he did 3 songs, the 2nd song had another full song in the middle though, and it was really really magical, we all had seats quite close, I think I must have only been about 4m away from the stage. Don't think he could see us from the stage but it looked like he was trying to look into the dark to see the audience, and though he wasn't well he engaged beautifully with the audience who all were very appreciative.
It was a funny time of day to go see a show at 11:15pm! but we all enjoyed it very much, the last 2 shows I've seen of Damien have been small scale and I just love to see him in a minimal environment, just him with his guitar, magic. When we came out I was saying that every time we see him sing it seems like such an honour and the others agreed. Absolute star. We all so appreciated the effort he must have made just to be there.

No chance to catch D - he was first up and then we were 45 minutes of other acts ........but I'm happy if he just went home to bed............to take care of himself.

It would have been great to hear him sing some new songs!!! Shame no one got to meet him, but it's probably a good thing that he was on first and got to go home relatively early! And it sounds like you girls were having your own Damienfest in Sydney - well done!!!!
