Just doing a concert report here, as Damien/family like to read our thoughts about the concerts. This way they don't have to log in and can read about the concert without all the gush!!.... Feel free to write about Damien's music/concert here. At the moment there are so many places to post a report up, we (moderators) are in the process of revamping this, so there won't be so much confusion.
OMG..I don't even know where to start. The thought of going to Sydney to see Damien sing at Star City (Swoon City) was doing my head in for such along time.
When I arrived with Trilly after our lovely meal at Al Pontes (compliments of her winning bid from the SO dinner) I was in awe of how amazing Star City looked at night with all those twinkly lights and so many people all dressed up and (some not so dressed up) ....it was just amazing.
I didn't take my seat for the first act (Live Room) as I met someone that I had been dying to meet up with for so long...(Carla) and we decided to wait out in the foyer until half time and do some catch up there. This is where we bumped into Eileen and had a quick hello to her. She has the most amazing smile, and was so friendly.
Half time was over and it was time to take our seats.....OMFG.....how close were we!!! I was totally not prepared for the closeness at all. I wanted to jump up on stage a few times..and how easy it could of been to actually do it. I was worried at first at how Damien might have sounded, not to mention the band, at being that close. But it was just fantastic.
His voice is so pure and crystal clear. I turned around a few times through out the show to check out the faces on the crowd...and yep....they all looked the same! They were as in awe as I was.
The band sounded great and there were a couple of songs I thought they could of toned it down abit. I didn't know if that was because we were so close or not, so would love to know how they sounded from people who were at the back.
I don't think Damien's voice wavered all night, (amazing considering he had just done 3 concerts back to back) well not that I noticed anyway....When he sung Hallelujah you wouldn't of heard a pin drop...I love it when that happens. Everyone was just mesmerized. It was the same with Danny Boy. Although, I might be the only member to say...that I don't actually like Danny Boy and wouldn't have minded if he hadn't sung it. I'm just glad that Damien sounds so great that it doesn't bother me too much when he does sing it.
The songs that he sung were:
1. Cold Cold Heart (loved it)
2. Not Just For The Weekend (loved it)
3. I Still Miss Us (great swaying song)
4. 22 Steps
5. Crying (touchdown)
6. Beautiful (sweet)
7. Danny Boy
8. Hallelujah (fantastic)
9. Alone (my fav)
10. The Long Way Back (rocking out)
11. Unchained Melody (I like Damien's version better than the original)
12. All I Want Is You (brilliant)
13. Shine Like The Sun (awesome, wanted to jump on stage)
14. With Or Without You/Fall At Your Feet (love it)
Encore
15. Nessun Dorma (would of liked a wardrobe change for this!! (suit etc)
16. Night Of My Life (memories)
another thing I would of liked...a request time. I think if Damien had rehearsed a couple of songs, then asked the audience which one they wanted...that would of been great. He could of even come down off the stage and asked a few people (a bit risky I know ) and then sung the most popular.
the concert felt like it went rather quickly...and before long Damien was saying goodbye. Damn.... it was over!
He is very relaxed with the joke telling and I loved hearing about all his childhood antics! The Wall was a good one...and the girl that vomits..Well what was she thinking!! I did yell out, (but my voice had already started to fail me) that he needs to write another book!! .
That was just the best concert, and to share it with so many Damienites was just amazing. I won't forget it in a hurry that's for sure.
Now I can't wait til Wednesday, when I get to hear Damien sing again in Brisbane.
Will post pics in the Photo Gallery soon. ;D
