The Newcastle Concert 16/11/07

Tonight Damien performed in the Civic Theatre....a beautiful, elegant old theatre that has been renovated and has amazing acoustics ;D. Tonight, Damien wore the black muscle shirt with white writing and pics, short black leather jacket, snug dk blue jeans and sneakers, with the cute spikey hairdo
He started off with Cold, Cold Heart, then mentioned about being like Justin Timberlake and "Bringing Sexy Back" yup yup, he did and then did his cute moonwalk, then sang Not Just for the Weekend after telling how, after Jagger's birth he realised what was important in life.....his wife and family and told about the TV show next year which will use this song, then told the story about his poor sister and how her breakup gave birth to the song I Still Miss Us.....scandalous!, next was 22 Steps, Beautiful (after which we threw roses and he picked one up), D did an amazing rendition of Crying after which Neski, Em and I stood up with touchdown signs. Damien then chatted about Celebration and how it was supposed to be the worst song on TV (that can't be right, I saw Kyle S attempt to sing once :
a few of us helped him out with some pogo hops to his little "Celebrate"........... ;D ouch!!!! where did that seat go!! Then we had acoustic versionsof Wicked Game , Danny Boy (with an explanation of how this song actually has some meaning for him after moving away from home and he actually listened to the lyrics and what they mean), He then sang Creep and a pair of sheer black knickers with sparkly blue stars landed on the stage and after the song he picked them up and pointed out that someone may have lost them . He then sang Song Bird. He then did Long Way Back, Unchained Melody , All I want Is You and we did the fluoro pointing at him on you, With or Without You. Then after he went off and came back.... more! more! sang Hallelujah as an acoustic song and then Night of My Life with the band. During this he introduced the band members and they all did their smexy dancing.....except for Darren who stood up and only waved
He again had the audience participate in Unchained Melody, All I Want Is You, With or Without You and Night of My Life.
The audience tonight were a very different group, somewhat more staid, conservative. They were still appreciative, but not as vocal as the CC crowd or as impulsive ....apart from a small group down the front and in the Dress Circle wearing lots of fluoro green. My friends thought him absolutely wonderful, but are more conservative, non-demonstrative. They loved the show and were so grateful to have been able to see and hear him.
This is the first time that the backing and the vocals were in perfect sync. Damien's vocals were sublime and the band didn't drown him out at any point....so with the amazing acoustics thrown in.....they sounded fantastic together.
Thank you so much Damien for a wonderful performance......yet again The sound on this one was really amazing and should have been taped ...........I would buy it, to listen to it again and again

The other ladies have pretty much covered the night. Damien was absolutly amazing. The sound levels were just right, not drowning him out, he was very friendly and on the joking side. I especially found throughout Danny Boy and songbird that I was entranced. I was lost in his voice and fell into my own little world staring at teh hawtness.

And I couldn't possibly tell you which was my favourite performance tonight as they were all so fantasticly done. I especially liked Creep though because it was the full version and it isn't sung very much. I Still Miss Us made me think of a certain someone that I miss and I felt a tear in my eye, and Beautiful was entrancing. He deserved those roses.

I don't know what else to say but THANK YOU DAMIEN AND THE BAND OF BOYS!!

My comments about backstage including my award picture

During the singing of NOML where Damien does the long Todaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay and seems to hold his breath forever, after he did that there was a huge applause, so with a cheeky grin on his face he asked did we want him to do it again? Of course we all said yes, and then bam straight into another long todaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
It was magnificent.
It was really funny looking down. Lozzy and I were about 4 rows back up in the dress circle. We would look down at the front row and it just [glow=green,2,300]glowed[/glow] green fluoro bracelets, pointy sticks etc. The theatre was quite dark with just the light onto the stage and here was this crowd. We could make out everything that they were doing. Good work girls. I might add that Lozzy and I were quite a visual treat too. We had [glow=green,2,300]glow[/glow] bracelets on both wrists, pointy sticks and Lozzy was wearing a fallen halo . She had joined some bracelets together to make a sort of headband. She later put it so that it was like a necklace. I had big [glow=green,2,300]glow[/glow] earing hoops. Basically they were the bracelets but worn on the ears. We were [glow=green,2,300]glowing [/glow] a treat. Dmac mentioned to me at the Hut that she was looking around quite a bit to see what we were up to and she could always find us with no problems.
The boss lady at the theatre had already told us that no photos were to be taken. We asked if just one could be and we were told no because of copyrite. (well done Hyp on getting 3 photos)
In my opinion the concert at Newcastle was great. Vocally it was fantastic. Damien was in fine voice and joked with the audience. The band was really good too.
The audience was as Dmac said a bit staid or not as enthusiastic as the Central Coast audience. The people at the front and up in the Dress Circle with all the fluoro did enough participating for everyone else though.
Overall, I think the audience enjoyed it. His applause at the end was strong enough and many people gave a standing ovation, but I was spoilt by the Central Coast where EVERYBODY gave a standing ovation and cheering etc.

I would also like to add that Lozzy & I did the pogo hops, the pointing and the standing ovations several times too.
Lozzy was going to mush during I Still Miss Us and Danny Boy . I had to pat her on the back (luckily she didn't belch) She thought they was just beautiful - and they were. Damien sings these with such emotion.
Thank you to Emmy and Hyp for the [glow=green,2,300]glow[/glow] bracelets, earings and halo. They were great TOUCH DOWN signs Hyp, Hypermum and Dmac.
A special thank you to Dmac who made it possible for Lozzy and I to be able to attend. Lozzy, big to you for travelling down from Tamworth and then driving back again after the concert. You are a champion and it was great to see/sit with you again.
We also handed out some business cards.

PS A great big for Dmac for providing the roses for Newcastle and the Central Coast.

Well what can I say that hasn't been said. Twas an awesome concert, the crowd were a little reserved for my liking but the atmosphere of the theatre was wonderful.
I took a friend from work who absolutely loved it. Another friend from work was dragged along by his wife and he was very pleasantly surprised! I had to laugh when he said he met a 65 y/o guy in the toilet who was a mad Damien fan.
My friend said there were a number of people around us (upstairs) who were wiping tears away during "Hallelujah". I didn't notice, cause I was one of them.
The only problem with going to see Damien is "I Want to go again & Soon!!!!!!

An extract from an email, received from a couple I gave tickets- "Yes, he really is a sweet guy!...Damien is a very versatile singer and much more of an all round entertainer than just a singer.
His way of poking fun at himself in a modest way was very pleasant and very unusual for someone so famous. It was hard to believe how many songs he sang without a break!"
I also found out that after Damien had a chat and photos with the DJs, they also let in those waiting outside at his request...about 20 people, so he could talk with them. He really is very sweet and generous.

He probably started feeling bad for the general public since it's now very obvious all the Damienites swept in and took all the backstage passes.
