Alright, first things first - Lewis is cute and Damien is too. Damien is an AWESOME host and I love the theme song, NJFTW is perfect for the show. Very interesting stories there, and wow, that is amazing how they are rebuilding Grace's nose from one of her ribs. I'm looking forward to the story next week about the girl with no ears. I'm guessing she will be able to hear after she has her surgery, since they are only showing happy outcomes (apparently). I wonder what that would feel like, suddenly being able to hear for the first time in your life.

Loved the show. Lewis is the most gorgeous and happy baby, I was close to tears watching him. It's so very sad. I was close to spewing when they erm...how would I put it? Pulled Grace' face down, that was so Her surgery was very confronting. Damien was fantastic. He's a great presenter. I know, I couldn't believe it when they just pulled her face off. Imagine Grace watching that on TV, how strange. I don't understand how they were able to just peel it back so (seemingly) easily.

That face peeling surgery was when I had to look away, I had never seen/heard anything like it! Just amazing what can be done, and amazing to rebuild a nose from a rib!! I really felt for Grace's Dad, he was trying so hard to be strong but you could hear it in his voice how shaken up he was (naturally!)
Little Lewis really touched my heart. What a beautiful family and OMG who can believe what a thing for a tiny little one to go through, not to mention Billy who is donating.
Can't wait to see the story of the little girl getting her hearing!

I made the mistake of letting Madison (6) watch it with me as she is a massive Damien fan. I had to tell her to leave the room during the parts with Grace's surgery. I don't want to shelter her from things like that but I also thought it could give her nightmares. She was so upset because she wanted to see Damien. I am one of those people that cover my eyes during procedures like that but I am also fascinated by medical science and how far we have come. I like how Saving Kids shows major cases like Lewis but also accidents like Nikko had. What beautiful and brave little people!

Carla I also like how it went from major cases to treating accidents - I think that it provides some relief from the intensity of the critical ones and helps pace things. I found it really fascinating to see how they treat all these accidents, so often it seems they have to invent something because it is something they haven't come across before. I am trying to post on the Saving Kids forum and am logged in but it is not showing up as having any posts, or then says I don't have suffucuent access privileges if I try again ? I think maybe they are working on it? Will post there later though, Damien did a great job and it's a very good show, to be congratulated

That face peeling surgery was when I had to look away, I had never seen/heard anything like it! I know!!! It all happened so quickly.. they're explaining how they can cut at the top in her hairline, and as they're saying and doing it I'm thinking, "But if they're cutting up there which is nowhere near her face and crushed bones.. OMG THEY'RE PULLING HER f**kING FACE OFF!!!"

Btw, after the show I looked over at mum who had tears in her eyes, and she looked at me and said, "I want to donate money to the hospital now"

Well, I can hardly add anything new here. But just say that my reactions have been pretty similar. I was astounded but completely amazed at the procedure that Grace was put through. It made me feel quite sick though, and still does when I think about it. I could not watch it, and one of the reasons (apart from lack of brains) that I could never be a surgeon or a nurse. Same with the screw drilled into Nicou's hand. Once again, I feel quite vexed at what seems like lack of supervision at the school. Not only that it happened, but that he had also tried to reverse it out with the drill!! Was *anyone* watching what he was doing with that power drill??? Am very moved with the story of Billy donating his bone marrow. The poor little boy could hardly say "bone marrow" properly. ((When they mentioned how the treatment reduces the immune system function it made me think of my hero Carl Sagan, who died whilst suffering Myelodysplasia, a rare form of Leukemia. His sister donated marrow. The man was taken from us by pneumonia however, as his immune system had shut down during treatment. )) I've always found this kind of program difficult to watch, and don't have enough curiosity to be keen on seeing so much of what goes on in an operating theatre. As everyone has said, I think Damien is a wonderful host and has very good voice for it. More strings to your bow, Damien.

This is the main portal for the Saving Kids forum and Trilly has posted here also. ten.com.au/ten/forums.htmlI made the mistake of letting Madison (6) watch it with me as she is a massive Damien fan. I like how Saving Kids shows major cases like Lewis but also accidents like Nikko had. What beautiful and brave little people! Carla, I think you did the right thing by getting Madison to leave the room during Grace's surgery. At six she just cannot comprehend what is going on and it probably would have frightened her. You are not sheltering her, you are protecting her until she's ready to deal with this side of life. It shocked me when I saw Grace's procedure but even though I squirmed a bit, I was totally in awe of the doctors and their skills in rebuilding Grace's face. It is something I've never witnessed before and to see this performed on a little girl of six, laying there totally oblivious to what is being done to her, really sent me in a spin. All I could think was she is going to be so terribly sore when she comes to. I'm noticing in this thread that we aren't so much drooling over Damien (and what's not to drool over? ) but discussing the traumas and treatments of the little ones featured in Saving Kids. This isn't a bad thing, more to the point I think it brings home how lucky we are to have healthy and happy kids and to keep them safe.

I hope Damien got a chance before the posts disappeared to read about how much we loved him as the narrator. In the last (or second last?) episode, I thought it was so amazing how, during Matthew's kidney transplant, the surgeon joined two arteries together to make one!

What a great find Spud. I loved that photo of him with the Irish Echo... but it seemed an odd choice for the Saving Kids write-up But great publicity for the Kids hospital, the show and for Damien.
