I was astonished to see this song missing from the list. I was all set to post my comments and couldn't find anywhere to post. This was Damien's first touchdown, and the song that I believe really started to get him noticed by a wider variety of people. I am a big fan of Chris Isaak, but Damien took this song and made it his own. What courage he had to come out with his own arrangement and start a cappella, so that it was just the voice after the beating he took from two of the judges the week before. That's what I always considered was the turning point for him in the competition, when he threw out the idea of trying to please the judges and did what he wanted to do.

whoa! that's an extremely sexy video of wicked game with Chris Isaak. *imitates Marcia* It's gettin hot in heah!! Totally agree with you. I think this is was the performance that turned Damien into a serious contender for the crown, and won him countless new fans who otherwise had dismissed him earlier as lacking the 'cool' factor. From that point onwards, he continued to win new fans over, and stamped himself as the class act of 2006. For this reason, it was probably his most important performance in Idol.

Yep - this morning I showed the whole Idol video to my (army trained) brother who arrived from the UK yesterday - and he was really impressed by Wicked Game and opined that it was the 'stand out".
And then in the car later mini-Dededom said "oh can we have the Nobody Nobody Loves Nobody song on again puhhhhleeeease?'
*was happy to oblige*

Wicked Game was what (accidentally) converted me too - although it was the first time I had heard Damien sing, so I'm not sure if conversion is the right word. It is still my absolute favorite and it's the most played on my itunes. I would have thought I would be sick of it by now, as one would be sick of any song they listen to SO much over a few months, but I still love it. This is true Damo for me - it's the kind of sound I'm hoping for on the album..

I spent a lot of time watching Damien on tv in weeks leading up to that performance, working my mental telepathy on him, thinking "please do a Chris Isaak song, it'd suit you so well, it'd be perfect for your falsetto!" I was cheering when he actually did it, he picked the best song too! As much as I like Chris' version, it sounds kinda bland to me now compared to Damien's version! ;D I saw Damien do this one at Warringah, and every time he performs it he adds an extra 'nobody' into the lyrics - it started 'nobody, no nobody, loves no one' and gradually changed until it was all 'nobody, no nobody, loves nobody'

It feels like ages since my last post- I'm sneaking on here while the rellies are out (thank god!). Wicked Game is very favourite among favourites of D's. This is the song that put him back on the AI map.

Wicked Game was an astonishing turning point in the competition!! New members might like to go back to the original threads when the songs were sung on the show as they happened each week - you really get the feeling of the emotions as we were all watching and cheering and reacting! They are in the Damien HQ section of the forum. Neski, Murf or Winter - I've been thinking that maybe one day we should have all the actual weekly song threads of Damien's from the idol period in their own archive or forum? It would be nice to see them all together in order as a record of the excitement which was building each week - anyway, just some food for thought

Cheers Dede - I am very passionate about preserving the early days of the forum, esp all the history of Damien's performances as they happened each week - years from now we will all look back on those times as how it all began! Anyway, things are in motion and will be put in a group soon
