*and now to rebut myself*. I think that if it was me (which it isn't, but for the sake of argument...) and I got a letter at the airport I'd think "God, guys, just leave it alone OK? I know I'm amazing, but can you just give me a bloody second or two to have a life of my own? Geeeeeez! You're all a bunch of weirdo stalkers who really need to get a life. *makes an L shape with finger and thumb on forehead*" well said "I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.."

True it does sound kind of stalkerish *that's a new word now* He has a life outside of music too. I'm sure we aren't the first thing he's going to think of when he steps off the plane. And I know when I get home from a long trip without jetlag how grumpy and tired I can be. The media will annoy them enough I'm sure If you were at the airport at the time and said Hi that would be different but don't go there especially or send creepy messages ;D If he's anything like some artists they do like to keep their private life and career seperate so we'll get to see plenty of him I'm sure when he tours but while he's with his family I think he should be left alone He's very open with the media at the moment but I think that may change when it all sinks in.

I never meant to suggest sending everyone's comments to the airport, but to start a 'Welcome Back' thread at the forum. Then he or Eils can read it if they want to. It would be totally up to them. I would never want to intrude into their private life. I don't know how celebrities put up with it. One of the main reasons that I never buy any of those trashy magazines.

No, it was actually me who suggested sending the comments to the airport, but I was a bit overexcited (in project manager mode after meeting with council over development), and then I realised that I shouldn't even contemplate that sort of thing and that if I gave myself half the attention I give D and his family I would probably not even need to participate in a forum anyway!....

Post a welcome back thread here - fine. Sending a welcome back message to the airport - don't even go near that one, people. You have a better relationship with Damien through this site than a lot of fans do with their chosen artists - don't feck it all up by being over the top or giving the appearance of being stalkers or assuming a relationship that you just don't have (sorry, but it's true).

I guess we don't want to be any more like stalkers than we already are!

OK - I think this thread has been discussed enough as it is. If we all stop posting to it , then it will slowly drop its way out of sight ...
In early January someone can start a nice fresh thread saying welcome back etc and we can take it from there.
*back to work all*

Excellent post. I agree 100% Just because he's added a lot of us to his my space friends list doesn't mean that we have any kind of personal relationship with him or anything. I think as time goes by he's going to have to be more cautious. He's still new to his celebrity status, but unfortunately there are a few crazy people out there, and I'd hate for him to have to be wary of anyone on this forum.

Dont feel bad for the suggestion morgaine...this is a discussion forum, you shouldnt feel too censored in what ideas you can post..one of the great things about this place is that there are no strict guidelines on discussion matter...post what you feel (within tasteful boundaries of course!) You should also feel great that it spurred a great idea from hyperrune...a welcome back thread here on the forum is a lovely idea, the banner could even be redone for the occasion (such as the birthday comp). The other great thing about what you posted is that it has opened up dialogue on what should be acceptable behaviour for fans and members of this forum...there would be many people unsure of how far is too far, and this thread gives a great concensus opinion on that For the record: I'm all for communication with D and his family publicly on this or the official forum, and at official events where D is expecting fan contact. Anything else, and I'm not interested. I sincerely hope that D and his family can maintain a happy and care-free private life. They are so generous with what they share with us already, we are so blessed

We won't kill a thread that says "I want to tell Damien how great he is and how much we missed him while he was gone"! I'm sure he'll appreciate the fact that we thought - or Morgaine thought! - to do it, as much as he'll appreciate the reasons why we won't do it
