If anyone could give me the general idea of what it's about I'd be grateful. Because I don't like to waste my bandwidth on negatives, but I am incurably curious.

I think they are trying to be 'funny!' They are basicallysaying about D being Irish and winning Oz Idol (ho hum me thinks I've heard all this before) Here goes: "This Irish fellow who won Australian Idol competition, Damien Leith I think he is. He thinks he is great. He's going on and on - look at me I won Australian Idol. I'm (can't make it out)great fella- well you're not a great fella. Sure anyone of us could have won that competition we just weren't bothered. We wanted to stay here with our own people Well he thinks he is better than us doesn't he. You're a Star not good enough for him. What did he get for winning Oz Idol. A million dollar record deal and a new car, fame beyond his wildest dreams and what do you get if you win You're a Star - Nothing a big fat nothing and a contract with the gutter and that's the way we like it here in Ireland. We want to point and laugh when they fail. That's part of the entertainment. We don't want people to doing well. OK Damien we don't want your successful types making us feel inadequate. It's not fair (and then some noises in the background like a and a cow - moo sound and like a door slamming) That was it folks. I hope you realised I had to listen to that over and over and over again to write down what was being said.

I hope you realised I had to listen to that over and over and over again to write down what was being said. Guys, I just read this over again. I can't seem to activate it to make it work..but its comedy and satire...and I really think they are having a much bigger go at THEMSELVES and all the Damien critics there rather than at Damien....and that he had to go overseas in order to "make" it. "You're a star" is the Irish version of Idol, and obviously doesn't have a big budget, etc.... I personally think he is basically saying "what do you expect that someone would have to go to Australia to do this?" I think he is also having a go at the Irish tradition of knocking success...remember how Damien said in an interview that he could never have done this in Ireland because there, you can't put yourself out there because everyone knows you? I have some friends who live in Ireland, and I can tell you - they really are tough on "celebrity" there. For months now I have been raving to a friend in Galway about Damien, and offerred to send him a CD with the performances etc...and he flatly said "Don't bother. I hate covers." {This I knew, because like just about all my Irish friends, he detests Westlife} However, yesterday he received my xmas present with the single in it, and this morning texted me and said "ok, ok, he's not bad.." (Praise indeed!) You watch, our boy will win them over too. Its interesting, remember that pretty pic, etc, of Damien and Jess with Westlife.?..Who remembers that interview after he won where Damien told one interviewer "Well, I don't want to be a one man Westlife". If we see covers from him, my guess is that they will be thrown in to please some fans, but the majority will be original work..YAY! Oh, I wish I could get the link to work for me ( don't know why it doesn't , I have cable)..but thats my take on the script, anyway.

PS. I thought the biggest tip is the last bit "OK Damien we don't want your successful types making us feel inadequate. It's not fair ". I think they are hinting that any sour grapes being expressed are because people are feeling inadequate and resentful of success.
AND....Haven't we seen the same thing here in Aus in regards to...like...Steve Irwin?? How long was he a huge huge star on US tv, with aussies bagging him..before they finally realised he wasn't such a bad guy after all?
Methinks...Swap Steve's name for Damien's, and that clip could have been done here a few years ago...

Aww... that's all right then. It does sound like they're just having a bit of fun at someone else's expense. And any mention of Damien in the media is just promotion, right? Yes. Steve Irwin all over again. Heaven forbid you make your career as a singer-songwriter by doing something different and performing some classy renditions of other people's songs on TV.

Yes it's definitely satirical. The voice sounds like a "mad" Irishman. (I'm Irish). So, don't y'all worry. Damien is safe.

Purplegraciegirl, you would have a better idea than us as to whether the single would do well in Ireland..what's your take on it?
Also, can I ask which part of Ireland you come from?

My parents were both from the south - Cork and Tipperary - so that's where most of my family is and where I've spent most of my time. I wouldn't presume to know the Irish musical market, but I'd imagine he'd get a good hearing because every country loves to hear one of their own doing well overseas.

. That was horrible!!, were they trying to be funny or something?, cause i saw comedy up the top, and it was funny... I wonder if it isn't like that interview we were all appalled with where they got Damien to eat a meat pie? When we actually watched the clip of it, it wasn't so bad..you could see they were just trying to be funny, and quite liked him. I do feel this could be the same... Comedy quite often doesn't hit the mark, especially when its satire.

Thats true, I guess if nothing else, they would be curious to know "what is it with this guy"? Whether they like what he sings or not, I don't think anyone could deny that he has an amazing voice. When we went out to dinner last night, I put the CD in on the way home..and my friend ended up taking us for a drive to see the Christmas lights because he wanted to hear the whole CD. He kept saying "ohmigod, ohmigod" when Damien hit those amazing high notes. *tick* another person won over. *Mental Note* Pop out later today to buy another copy as a Christmas Present..hehe...my personal tally is up to 8 now... Purplegraciegirl, I love your puddytat! What a beauty! I have two as well, a Siamese and Burmese. The Siamese is trying his level best to sit on my lap while I type now...think he hates this forum! ("Mum spending more time here than giving ME attention")
