Aussie gold for Irish idol[/u] Cameron Adams December 02, 2006 12:00am DAMIEN Leith has reversed the trend of low-selling Australian Idol winners. Seventy thousand copies of his single Night of My Life have been sent to record stores this week to cope with demand.
Night of My Life is outselling the rest of the Top 10 singles combined at some record stores, and is the fastest-selling single record label Sony BMG has released this year. Leith has already earned a gold disc for the single. "It's unbelievable," Leith, 30, said yesterday. "I'm looking at the gold plaque. It's very weird. The idea people are out there buying one of my singles in those kind of quantities is strange, but it's a great thing." Leith said he had not personally heard criticism of an Australian Idol winner being Irish. "I can understand how some people may be upset by it, but I have a good feeling it'll all fade away. "People have embraced me. It's a fantastic thing to come all the way to Australia and get discovered. "Next year I'm eligible for Australian citizenship - I'm keen to get to that point." wow!

Isn't that awesome. Bought a tear to my eyes, just thinking how overwhelmed he probably is by all of this. Outselling all the other top 10 cds in some stores, that is incredible. Best way to silence all the critics.

Either Herald-Sun have got mixed up a bit, or this is really fantastic news (well, either way it's still good news). 70,000 singles to stores would actually give it PLATINUM accreditation and would suggest that the initial number of releases to stores (35,000 or so, which gave it gold status) underestimated demand.

Maybe he's sold enough for Gold, but there are just loads more on order that haven't been purchased yet? All the same, it's brilliant news. I hope he never stops being suprised by the support he gets. It's very endearing...

Yes! I'm so hoping that Damien snares the ARIA for highest-selling single this year. It would just be the icing on the cake for him. Hoping this 70 000 copies thing is accurate. I guess we'll hear more about it soon if it is. And if that's 70 000 more on top of the 35 000 they've already sent, he'll be halfway to double platinum! He'll have another plaque to stare at then.

That is fantastic. And if he can do that with the idol song how much better will he do with his own material and the time to produce it properly. Of course, I bought the single for "Come to Me" anyway, I've loved it for months, although I must admit the other one is starting to grow on me. |

Isn't his modesty one of the reasons that we all love him?  I think it's because he was trying for almost 15 years to break into the industry, and now all of a sudden, he's made it. Women are screaming and throwing their undies at him-are they really?-and he can't believe it. Bet Mark  can't believe it either! Or  Kyle |
