DAMIEN LEITH ONLINE BIRTHDAY PROJECT 2008
The Birthday Project for Damien for the Special Olympics is underway again this year!
With Damien’s blessings, the idea is that everyone who wishes may contribute to the Special Olympics Australia organisation as a gesture to celebrate his birthday. Damien is an Ambassador for the Special Olympics. Last year the forum raised almost $2,000 for this project alone which was sensational and was a very significant contribution to the organisation.
It is hoped that this will continue to be a perpetual project providing an opportunity for Damien’s supporters to also support this very worthwhile organisation.
Your contributions go directly to the Special Olympics - no money is handled by anyone at the forum, and all contributions receive an official receipt and are tax deductible.

VERY IMPORTANT STEPS:
Please send a confirmation email to Monica Smith at the Special Olympics after you have made your donation or sent your cheque to ensure that your donation can be recorded as part of the Birthday Project.

In your email to Monica, please confirm the details of the donation (name, amount, date, method) and your return address so she can send your receipt.
It is also very important that you send her your FORUM name, and confirm how you wish your name to appear on the letter for Damien, and for any public letter for the forum, so that the list can be prepared of all forum members who contributed. Amounts will not be included on the letter, the amount contributed will remain a private matter between you and the Special Olympics.
Please also PM me to confirm your participation - no one from the forum, including me, will know the amount you have contributed or your personal details. However I also need to know how you wish your name to appear on the letter for Damien, and for any public letter for the forum, so that I can confirm all the final names for the letter with Monica and ensure no one has been left off.
NAMES? That part can be a little confusing, but it’s really important - here is an example. For Damien’s letter, say my name was Jane and I wanted him to see my real name and forum name on his letter but preferred to keep my name private for the forum.
So, I would write in my confirmation that I would like to be written as Jane (shimmery) on the letter for Damien, and just as shimmery on the forum letter.
You may want to even be listed as Anonymous for the letters - , just let me know so we can confirm how many “anons” there are so the number of participants is still correct.
At the end of the project, the same as last year, I will put up the list of members who contributed in the Secret Plans forum (written as they have requested their names to appear for public on the forum) so that everyone can ensure their name is on the list of participants before the letters go out. If there are Anons, I will write how many there are without naming, of course.

TALLY DATES:
The project will have 3 Tally dates - Jan 11, 14 and final Tally Date Jan 18 - Damien’s Birthday. Progressive Tally results will be shown after these dates in this thread in the Secret Plans forum.
If you wish to contribute to the project but will have difficulty by the final date of Jan 18th, please contact Monica or me.

Donating your TIME:
The Special Olympics very much relies on it’s volunteers for support. If you are able to donate your time to help out at events, this would be an incredible support for the organisation.
WORKPLACE GIVING:
Workplace Giving is a really effective way to make an ongoing contribution. If you work for an organisation, you might wish to discuss this option. Workplace giving means that a defined amount is contributed each pay day from companies who wish to sign up, and ensures a regular predictable income flow for the SO.
Please contact Monica via her details provided above should you wish to contribute to the project via these other methods.
Last year apart from the Birthday Project members from this forum participated in a very significant way for the SO Gala dinner, both as volunteers and in contributions to fundraising, & it was a brilliant night enjoyed by all.
