Yes... those of us who supported Damien from the beginning (or whenever we first noticed him) can feel proud at our talent-spotting eyes. ^_^ It still makes me sad to think of Dean copping it now though. I don't think his performances lately have been bad at all - in fact, I thought his Sunday night ones were among his best. It's just that Damien and Jessica, I think, are the best vocalists and all-round performers, and therefore should be the ones in the final. It's a tough year, especially with our Damien in. When he gets going, he makes everyone else look ordinary. Yeah I so agree, everyone seems average compared to Damien.

Right from the start I wanted it to be Jess and Damien as the Final Two. Only one step away from that now! At least then it will be between two I really like, and even though Damien is my favourite, I won't mind too much if Jess wins - she is a lovely, wonderful young talent and deserves to go far. My dislike for Dean isn't so much that I am against Dean as a person, or even as a talent in his own right - I just don't like how the system allows someone to be successful in a competition simply by spending a lot of money on text messaging because they're flavour of the moment - I respect the people who genuinely support Dean as a talent, and at the beginning I quite liked Dean. I have a theory, and it is based on from when I remember what it was like in high school 20 years ago (oh gawd!). For those who are in high school now, please tell me what you think. I believe the Dean "craziness" from the school girl contingent may be because at the beginning, groups of friends thought this guy was goodlooking and had rock star potential - I certainly saw that from the beginning - and then it just snow-balled and grew and grew until there is now a degree of peer pressure in the schools for girls to be crazy over Dean, and follow the trend, and the support is "tunnel-visioned". No matter what he sings or how he performs, if the crazy enthusiam is still at a high momentum, they'll vote for him. This kind of support can be fickle also, and the craziness dies almost as quickly as it started. This could raise some speculation as to how long Dean would be successful as the Australian Idol.
Man, can I rant sometimes.

Yeah, I think the Dean thing has just gotten out of hand now so that some of the fans don't even know why they're voting for him any more. (I say 'some' because I can accept that a lot of people will prefer Dean and genuinely want to vote for him for his talent, which he has loads of in his own way!) I think the craziness is already dying off for poor Dean - especially now that he seems to be tiring of jumping through hoops just so teenage girls can scream over him.
I've always wished that Idol would change the system so that to be allowed to vote, people had to commit to buying the debut album and singles from that album if someone they vote for actually wins. They won't do it of course because it would be a nightmare to implement and... well, they want the craziness and the money, but you have to wonder how the results would have changed last night under those conditions?

I think you're right. According to my mum (who was an expert pretty-boy-spotter in her day ), when Dean went into the auditions Mark said "Gosh you're good-looking", and he froze up. Which is what you would do if Mark said anything to you, really. But my mum reckons he wants to be known for talent, not good looks, and he hasn't exactly improved either his voice or his looks in the past weeks, so people are going "Yeah, you're hot, but so what?" I think people are getting used to seeing him, and realizing how good other people in the comp are, like oh, say, a certain fellow called Damien Leith ;D I think these crazy photo shoots Dean is doing may be a last-ditch effort for Dean to remind everyone why they should vote for him, ie. how good he looks. I've been doing a bit of Dean-bashing lately, and i feel a bit guilty because really, it's sad - he's the same age as me, rather conservative and shy, and look at how much pressure he's under! I also agree that Jess should go to the opera house. She has such a powerful voice for a 16-year-old (the next Marcia perhaps?) and I would just love to see her reaction when she steps out of the limo (simulation: *squee*OMG! LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE!)

I will definately be voting a few times for Damien this week, especially now that Chris is gone. I've been voting for both of them the past few weeks but am now 100% behind Damien. He has the best voice ever heard on idol and he deserves to win. Even if he doesn't win, I look forward to buying the album I know he'll release in the not too distant future.
