CONGRATULATIONS DAMIEN!!! As you already know, I couldn't be happier for you. ;D This is a wonderful achievement and so well deserved. Obviously it was really close which is probably a little frustrating but it is still a FANTASTIC result! We are so proud of you!

THE SALES FIGURES!! www.undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=4887Andre Rieu Tops Mothers Day Chart Weekby Paul Cashmere - May 12 2008 Andre Rieu has topped the chart in Australia for one of the biggest weeks of the year, the lead-up to Mother's Day. The number one album in Australia this week has gone to Andre Rieu. His Aussie album Waltzing Matilda sold over 17,000 copies in the Mothers Day sales week. Rieu also has 8 of the top 10 DVDs in Australia this week. Rieu's 'Waltzing Matilda' sold 17560 units last week (including 71 downloads to a few very tech mothers).Meanwhile, on the DVD chart, Rieu owned positions 1,2,3,4,6,8,9 and 10 in the Top 10. Rieu's 'Waltzing Matilda' blocked Idol's Damien Leith from the number one with the made for Mothers Day covers album 'Catch The Wind: Songs of a Generation'. It was a close call. Leith lost the coveted position by less than 300 units.SOOO........Damien sold at least 17,260 last week, probably up around 17,300!!!

Absolutely fantastic results! Good onya Damien!!! I love these parts: Thanks so much for posting this Winter. It's (so nearly) the best result because Damien's modest domestic promotions (tinged with luuurve) have totally matched a multimillion dollar international publicity machine! Woohoo!!! Take a bow, Mr Leith ... made for Mothers Day, Paul? I was at those instores and the album wasn't just going to mothers! The fact is, men were buying it for themselves or as a present for, yes, wives & mums but only because they wanted to listen to it too!

Thanks Myst and Damien should be extremely proud! As we all are of him ;D Don't you just love ( NOT ) the way Cashmere completely overlooks the amazing result for Damien to miss out so closely against such a huge selling international artist as AR and also knocking Madoona out . As well as quite obviously out doing blowing out of the water all the other "made for Mother's Day CD's" out there. Seems there's a bit more than Mother's day sales happening here, Mr Cashmere!

I'm with you Braffy.. PC ok, this might give you a laugh..... I went into Big W today, and couldn't spot D's album ANYWHERE on the Charts Wall... NOT impressed..... Marches up to the counter, and asks where Damien's album is, and the girl points to this obscure shelf down low in one of the aisles. I said with great surprise "But why isn't he up on the Chart Wall? He is currently Number Two on the Aria charts!", to which she replies.."Oh, we had sold out, so I had just put the new ones we got today down there.....hang on, there are spaces up on the wall at Number One..." and she promptly went and put them all up in the Number One spot.... ;D so Damien is NUMBER ONE in *my local* BIG W today!!

Way to go Chris. I managed to put Damien in the # 1, #2 and #3 spot in my local Kmart.
Two or 3 on this shelf, 3 or 4 on that one and the rest here will be nice thank you. I had 6 rows of Damien.

So so happy for Damien reading these incredible chart results, and to be so close to #1 against a major international act on Mother's Day week is nothing short of sensational!!

I had never heard of Andre R.... before a few weeks ago, but he is obviously a big big seller of CD's & DVD's in Australia (who would have guessed , I'm obviously way out of touch!). So for Damien to come so close to knocking him off number one is a very very big achievement! And pushing Maderna out the way? Wow! She no doubt had a massive advertising budget, a big hit single, and that was all I heard about on radio the week before the album's release!! So superb effort Damien!!
