In Music & Media Online Magazine Issue #545 - Tuesday 27th February, 2007 From www.themusic.com.au/im_m/display.php?s=christie&id=103ARIA #1 CHART AWARDS REPORT * Lauded were The Living End, Hilltop Hoods, Something For Kate, Billy Birmingham, Human Nature, TV Rock, Crowded House, Kylie Minogue, John Farnham, Kasey Chambers, Kate DeAraugo, Lee Harding, Youth Group, Damien Leith for reaching #1 for singles, albums and / or DVDs. * This year's event, held at Doltone House in Pyrmont, changed format from an early morning two-hour meet to an all-afternoon event. It included a media conference, awards and drinkies, and live sets from Eskimo Joe and Damien Leith. * Eskimo Joe sported shades as they'd caught a midnight flight from Perth after celebrating at the WAM awards -- and had to sit next to someone who snored and farted the whole trip over. * A video presentation of the winners mistakenly attributed the 12th Man aka Billy Birmingham's record label to SonyBMG, instead of EMI his label for 22 years. Birmingham thanked "my new label SonyEMI, headed by Denis O'Donnell" (as in SonyBMG's Denis Handlin and EMI's John O'Donnell), while host James Mathieson evilly added, "Not everyone's owned by, er, signed to SonyBMG." * James Mathieson, never this column's fave TV person, turned out to be quite the quick-witted host. When Damien Leith spoke of his May due baby, Mathieson murmured, "Was THAT the night of your life?" He suggested that as the "Dreamgirls" movie musical, based on Motown, had helped Human Nature's album sales, they should call Hollywood to make a sequel called "Dreamboys." As he introduced Kasey Chambers as "consistently putting out great records," the country queen yelped, "I thought you said I consistently put out!" Mathieson pointed at the pregnant Chambers and sniffed, "Well, look at you!"
