Wow, where does one begin?
I feel truly blessed to have had the privilege of seeing what I saw this weekend.
DAMIEN WAS FREAKING UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Generally,Damien just seemed sooo relaxed and was having such fun! Even more jokes than usual, heaps of interractions with the crowd (who rapidly warmed up)
Its so odd how so much happens and then you think….must remember that…and then your mind is in such a weird state that you can hardly remember a thing…
Let’s see what I remember…
I think we all knew we were in for a good night when we saw a certain “gift” adorning Jimmy’s guitar stand….it probably wasn’t a coincidence that some stray feathers were also seen floating around the stage later on, either??
Damien kept cracking up from the front row antics and having to look away to keep a straight face…it was so much fun to see.
A couple of jokes to start around Jimmy’s speedo and swimwear catalogue (I think that was only to get some front row
s going at the thought of Jimmy in speedos, myself
)
He started with “Never Meant to Fail” and that did it for me….I was off in The Coma well and truly….thats always been one of my personal favourites, so so sad….frustrated dreams and broken hopes….anyway, I digress.......
Oh, that’s right…the dancing thing…
Well, there was a bit of a "dancin'" theme to the night...firstly a reference near the start to "Celebration" and "bunnies on heat"...and then a few pogo-stick like jumps that were SO funny when the audience DEMANDED he show them...
!!
Also early on, there was a hitch where Damien alleged that Jimmy had come in too early, and that there had to be a suitable punishment…he had decided that if anyone made a mistake, they had to do penance in the form of a dance for the audience. So Jimmy got up and did a rather interesting hip-swinging little number (that probably got at least a couple of blood pressures up
). Indy was also warned with a wagging finger (we all know that wagging finger, don't we? ;D) that if she made a mistake she would have to do a dance... but she just looked faintly superior because, after all, Indy does not make mistakes….haha
(By the way, Indy was wearing the school girl outfit with the short tartan skirt and braces and tie loose over the top...no single fishnet stocking tonight, she was clearly being sedate... ;D )
Anyway, a fair bit later, Damien is doing his intro to “Vincent”, and he makes the confession about how he had fluffed the lines and sung about the flaming floors instead of flowers. Somewhere from the audience someone called out “Well then, you have to do a dance!” and the general cry went up for him to pay up for the mistake…
So, after a little “encouragement” in this style, Damien put down his guitar and went back a bit. We were all getting set for an Irish jig and instead….a cossack dance!!
BWWAHHHAA!!! It was so hilarious, the audience making him eat his own words like that…
Anyway, I was SO fortunate to have my camera ready at that moment and captured the Cossack dance on video….here it is, for everyone to see just how FINE a dancer Damien is!: (It looked so energetic, I did know I was thinking…”gees…hope that doesn’t do in the formerly alleged “bad back”!! )
www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTd-dwltYEcAfter the dance was over and he stood up, he made a comment about how hard it was to do that in tight jeans…and now they were even tighter…(more roars of laughter)…
When he was singing Vincent, once again a little bit of applause when he made it safely over “the flaming floors” ….
As has been already mentioned, the audience participation at the end of Wicked Game was also hilarious. He had to “get a run up” in order to reach the high notes (consisted of jogging up to the mike from further backstage), and then back again for an “even bigger” run up for the even higher note. Then, as he was reaching the end of the note, someone yelled out “Show off!” and he nearly cracked up again.
As everyone else has said, he was SMOKIN!!
I also find it hilarious how when he tries to get the crowd to do the train noises in “Everybody’s Talking” and we do a crappy job and fade out…there is a bit of a silence while he seems to struggle for appropriate words and shakes his head….just the look on his face starts the laughs….
I don’t think its an exaggeration to say that he absolutely OWNS an audience…
My two girlfriends were completely and utterly starstruck as well….ahhhh…..the Damien magic never fails! We all had the BEST night, and the front row antics definitely enhanced the experience….the way Damien responds and even seems to go looking for trouble sometimes… a few mentions of the “ladies here in the front row”…
Only one encore…alas….and then it was all over, seemed to be farrrrr too soon….(gees, if we had known he was going for a beer after instead of resting his voice, we would have DEMANDED he do another song!!! Haha)
After it finished, we three got in the queue early to see him because we all had early starts for work the next morning, and he was a delight, as always. We told him he had been absolutely fantastic tonight, and he said he had felt that he was in good form tonight, despite the after effects of the cold still persisting. He signed something a bit cheeky in my book, but I won’t go into it here…had me in fits in the lift though, when I read it. Such fun!
Oh, and I put in another plug for “The Blowers Daughter”
(nagnagnag) …one can always hope we get to hear it again some day!
I took quite a few videos, which I will try to get uploaded over the next few days and post in photo gallery.
Another
fabulous night, thanks everyone...
and ESPECIALLY
THANK YOU, DAMIEN!! [/b]
