Hi everyone - Yes I'm back having had a break to deal with family problems, but here I am again. I have just come back from seeing Damien at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, and catching up with Mysteri, and boy, what a show it was! Mysteri would normally have written this report for you, but because she and her husband are staying overnight in Canberra she asked that I do it instead. Of course, I am sure she will prepare her own report when she gets back home.
This was the first time I had attended a show in this venue so I had no idea what to expect. It wasn’t as good as the Canberra Theatre, but not too bad. Damien, of course, was superb. He was accompanied by another guitarist, Jim Roach, and a lovely young girl on the electric violin. They were both brilliant. Damien has grown much more confident and relaxed since I last saw him, and in my opinion has become an even greater talent. His Irish wit shone through on many occasions, and his ability to laugh at himself just added to his performance. He truly is a very enjoyable entertainer, and I can’t wait until he returns to Canberra.
Damien began his show by singing the title song from his latest album, 'Catch the Wind' which was every bit as good as the recording. He then followed this up with a mixture of songs from his latest and previous albums. You will have to forgive me if I cannot remember the numbers he sang because I didn’t make a note of them. However, after the break he sang some of his most requested songs including Halleluiah, Crying and Vincent, which proved very popular with the audience. When someone requested Nessun Dorma he initially said he couldn't do it because it was too hard, but after talking about it for a while he decided to give it a go. It was just fantastic. He followed this by saying it was only the thrid time he had sung it in the last 18 months, so how privileged were we? Following an encore Damien sang Danny Boy which was also very popular. I just wish I could remember all of the songs Damien sang but I can’t, although I do know that he sang many of the songs that I have fallen in love with since his Idol appearances. Maybe Mysteri will do a better job than I can.
The audience was made up of a mixture of people, both male and female, which just goes to show how Damien appeals to all age groups. It is for this reason, I believe, that his success will continue for a long time to come, because his support base is very solid.
My group which was made up of my two daughters, a friend of theirs, and my granddaughter Emily, was unable to meet Damien after the show, which I understood was at his request. Considering he had a three hour journey back to Sydney this was quite understandable, although I would have loved the opportunity to meet him. Still, maybe next time.
I will end by saying it was a most enjoyable evening. Damien not only sang to perfection, but he proved to be a great comedian as well. He poked fun at his dancing ability, and even treated us to a performance of Irish dancing. What more could we have asked for?! My daughter Jenny, who is recovering from a gallbladder operation, was laughing, singing and cheering so much that she ended up with pains in her stomach. That is the price you pay for having fun!

Thanks for the report, erin, and for coming back. You're right there Trilly. We were laughing so much sometimes that we nearly fell off our chairs!! Damien has such a sense of humour.

It's a shame you couldn't get to meet him, erin, but I guess he needed to get home tonight. Last time he did a gig in the ACT, he had a pretty hairy 3 hour ride home in a storm, which I bet he hasn't forgotten.

that was lovely Erin. and you were indeed priveleged - I haven't heard Nessun Dorma for the last 2 tours, I think. the way you described your daughter's reaction to Damien's complete showmanship is just a classic.
