Hey guys, did anyone see Damien on sunrise this morning? I taped it (missed a few seconds though)
He wasn't live in the studio though - just a cross over somewhere. I'll type up some now and do the rest later.
I was quite nervous to be honest. But yea, it was an icredible day for me, so many emotions there *shows a clip of Damien at his ceremony* Just an incredible day for me.
Why, What made you make the descion to become an Aussie?
To be honest, it was about 5 years ago, my wife and I sat down and we said 'Alright, Ireland or Australia?', I was Irish at the time, and we basically said what are we going to do with our future. I came here on a holiday, basically we said this is where our future is. From that 5 years ago until yesturday, it was a 5 year process of kinda making the steps come together and becoming a citizen. It's really just about how we want to live our life, how we want to raise our kids and it's an incredible thing and something I'm really happy about.
I think one of the things we are really proud of in our country is that so many people from other countries come to this country like you fall in love with it and continue to hold their duel citizenship, because you know our culture, our roots, are incredibally important and former and really part of the mix here in Australia. You're still gonna hold your Irish Citizenship aswell.
Ah yea, well you know there is dual citizenship as you said which definatly makes it easier for getting in and out of the country, whenever I'll be travelling back to Ireland. But um, you're totally right. There is such a history there and such a culture and so many peopole from Ireland and all over the world come to Australia and said ah yeaa, this is where I want to live for me and duel citizenship. But for me it's the whole thing of being able to be activly involved with everything to do with the country and that's why is so important to me.
And it's got all different cultures here which is great,
Yea, absolutly. From the day I arrived in Australia, I've just been exposed to so much multicultural activities, just really involves everybody ........ *to be continued*
