Teh Stories! Thanks to a great night, a heatwave, and some very excellent coffee at The Vault, I am still wide awake at this hour! So, time to get writing some love for tonight's show!
Getting there - wow - we actually saw cows and horses!! I forgot how rural this part of Sydney was. Lovely rural idyll there for a while... followed by mild panic once we entered George St Windsor and realised it was close to being
teh longest street in the world... Are we in the right street??? Are we in the right town???
Once we figured that the streets in this part of Sydney are indeed Vegas-scale and mega, we relaxed and found our way counting the street numbers
by the hundreds til we found ourselves going under an unanticipated rail bridge and turning into what we weren't sure was the same road - that led us past graveyards and empty fields -
oh my God? All was well though, we eventually figured we were getting closer and before long were parked near the lovely Windsor Mall where the old heritage buildings are (plus many ghosts).
Was still baking hot but we were happy to be out strolling in the evening air and found teh venue! Looked lovely, but we couldn't get into that air-conditioned goodness yet, the doors didn't open for a while still. So we decided to go for a stroll and spent a little while in the Macquarie Arms (Oldest Pub in Australia) just up the street!
I'd been reading about this hotel recently and apparently there are at least 3 ghosts there which are seen regularly by staff...
& I started to get a little nervous about looking up at the upstairs windows (where there have been some sightings)...
So, after a little look about, we headed back to the lovely Vault 146, which is an old bank converted to a restaurant/bar. It was still quite warm and a couple more minutes until they were to open the doors so we found a shady spot out front and sat there a while - when... up at the window on the first floor I saw a figure!!!!
A beautiful apparition
indeed!
- for there looking down to us and waving hi
was the lovely Damien!
So gorgeous to see him before the show even started and what a cute way for that to happen!
When we looked up again there was Eric at the window! - waving then giving us a toast with his beer
by then we were totally cracking up, so cheeky teasing us from their air-conditioned glory
is that a ghost in that window? (or is it an
Eric ?
)
Not long after that Kazza, her DD & Michele arrived and the doors opened!
We all headed in to the lovely venue and settled in for dinner before the show. The food was great and the staff really went to a lot of trouble to make sure everyone was happy! We were having a great time!
Teh Show!
Damien headed for the stage just before 9pm (massive cheers) and Eric followed after a few songs, it was a really good crowd and great vibe in the room - definitely a music lover's audience and Damien and Eric were really thriving on it!
Sorry is so beautiful and we love it, it's so exciting that it's opening the show lately! The whole show was going beautifully right from the start and Damien in magnificent form!
Damien told some great stories between songs, one about the journey they had to Windsor where they saw a ute in front of them on the road that was losing its load - Damien and Eric pulled up alongside and tried to signal them that they were losing their load and the people in the ute obviously didn't quite get the signals & just waved back and called out would they like to go for a beer
Damien said that if they all had, it would have made for a good story later on their first meeting
Just the most gorgeous little new addition to
Annie's Song tonight! We all picked up on it straight away and commented at interval how we liked it - Eric added a lovely bell/chime-like effect on his guitar, was soooooo pretty!! We complimented him later on the many other lovely things he was playing and typically modest he said ah he was just making it up as he went along - well we say to that, only if you're the virtuoso musician he is, then is that possible!
Damien was doing some lovely lovely things in some of the songs tonight, in a couple he changed his arrangement/key quite a bit from normal as he was singing (it seemed just for the sheer joy of it) & it sounded stunning!! Some lovely freedom in the set tonight, with some new things tried, we were in raptures!
We loved
Nessun Dorma too - Damien got so into it, it was incredible - he swooped his arm out to the audience and got us all to be "the orchestra" and we all hummed the big swell of the instrumental part and he was waving us along from the front - he really seemed to be enjoying it all so much, it was just magic - and you could hear a pin drop by the time he hit the big notes at the end - WOW again!
The audience was getting right into it and singing along during the show - Damien and Eric declared this audience had the new record for being the best singers
& then they shook their heads remembering Dapto's efforts once more
The
I Love You Damien song -
but also, of course we do!
Was a really funny moment (Damien saying it's scandalous to sing the song about himself once he joined Eric
) - there were a LOT of people calling out WE LOVE YOU tonight which is what really started it off - was a gorgeous room of people!
okay - back soon!
