Here is the article Success keeping Damien Leith far from idle
DAMIEN Leith did not rely on luck when he was plucked from 25,000 other hopefuls and crowned the winner of Australian Idol in 2006.
As one of the final 24 contestants and the first person voted into the competition’s top 12, Leith’s natural talent was the overriding factor in his success.
Ahead of the release of his fourth studio album, the charismatic Irishman will perform an intimate acoustic show at Rooty Hill RSL on Saturday.
Playing solo for the first half, Leith will give fans an opportunity to request their favourite songs from any of his previous albums, including The Winner’s Journey and Remember June.
“This album is entirely original and it has more of a contemporary feel with a Celtic undertone,” Leith said of Remember June. Drawing inspiration from fellow Irishmen U2 and alternative rockers Snow Patrol, the album is undoubtedly influenced by his roots.
The father of two said the inspiration behind the album was also linked to another of his creative works, a novel of the same title. His son was two when Leith started writing the book and was a strong influence behind it.
“It’s a fiction book set in Ireland that covers the highs and lows of relationships and life,” he said.
If he had not stepped into that Australian Idol audition room, Leith said he would be working a normal job but still trying to pursue his love for music.
On top of touring and writing, he admitted it could be difficult juggling music and family.
“It’s hard to balance, but my wife and I try to schedule and leave time for the kids and ourselves,” he said.
The work doesn’t stop at the end of the tour. Leith is recording in Nashville and Sydney for his album, set for release in March.
