2011 DLO BIRTHDAY PROJECT for SPECIAL OLYMPICS AUSTRALIA


HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAMIEN!!

Welcome to the 2011 DLO Birthday Project, now celebrating the 5th time DLO has supported the Special Olympics Australia at this time of year in honour of Damien’s birthday!


The idea for our project is a gesture from us to celebrate and honour Damien’s birthday each year. Direct contributions are made by those who wish to participate to the Special Olympics Australia organisation - for which Damien is a Special Ambassador. As the project progresses, the tally is updated regularly until we reach the grand total.


Your contributions go directly to the Special Olympics - no money is handled by anyone at the forum, and all contributions receive an official receipt and are tax deductible.


In the past four years, DLO has raised over $8,875.00 for the Special Olympics via this project alone, and members here have also volunteered and participated in other activities and fundraising events for the SO.


It’s amazing to think that it’s now four years since our first project helped to raise funds to support the SO athletes attend the 2007 World Games in Shanghai. In 2011 the World Games are on again and our fundraising project will go towards funding the athletes and their families to attend this major event in Athens.


Our hearts go out to all affected by the recent flood crisis and with that current situation in mind it was decided to set a later closing date for our annual SO project - *EXTENDED TO APR 29, 2011* to enable anyone who wishes to take part in this year’s SO project the opportunity & time to be able to do so at a later date.

How to Take Part in the Project


Last year TEAM DLO was the Top Fundraising Team to take part in the SO’s Run With the Law, raising over $ 4,600.00 !


Though there will be no Run With the Law event this year, the SO has created our OWN FUNDRAISING PAGE for TEAM DLO for the 2011 Birthday Project, complete with barometer to watch the rising tally! Along with Damien, we can all watch the progress of our team & tally!

If you prefer to appear anonymously on the donation page you may wish to post here that you have taken part, as this thread can act as an honour role for the supporters, or just PM me as in previous years to have your name added to the letter of supporters of the project for Damien.

Help us get the Australian team to the Special Olympics World Games!

Special Olympics is a local weekly sporting program for people with an intellectual disability but every four years their athletes have the opportunity to perform on the international stage. The 2011 Summer World Games are in Athens, Greece. A team of 131 Australian athletes will be striving to reach their personal best against 185 countries across 11 sports.

Hi Dawn I double checked with Karla Hepburn from the SO, the donations are still open and the "donate here" links on our pages work, but you don't need to register for anything (it's not like last year where we registered as well for the run).
