This is probably not the sort of question they want but I'd like to know if he's doing well financially? Is this year better financially for him than if he'd not gone on Idol & was doing his day job & gigging like before? I'm curious to know who is making the money especially when TWJ was so successful-but it was ripped straight from the show- how much does D get out of that?

He would get some royalties for Come to Me and Sky since he was the writer of thse songs. There was a thread somewhere that covered this topic. I will try and find it for you. DD I think posted it.

Here it is smiley There are at least two (2) copyrights in any recording: (i) The copyright in the song being the composition and/or the lyrics (i.e. the “musical work” in copyright language). APRA grants licences for the broadcast and public performance of musical work and distributes to songwriters and their publishers. (ii) The copyright in the recorded version of the musical work. PPCA grants licences for the broadcast communication and public performance of recordings and distributes licence fee income to record labels and directly registered Australian recording artists. Each inclusion of NOML in a compilation earns Damien a royalty for the reuse of the recorded versionof the musical work, and that would go into his recoupable account with Sony. At the end of each financial year, the process of calculating the amount available to be distributed on a track by track basis to Australian recording artists (after the deduction of administration costs) is undertaken. Where an artist has registered under the Artist Direct Distribution Scheme, 48.75% of funds available for distribution in relation to a particular track go to the record label, 48.75% goes to the registered Australian artist and 2.5% goes to the PPCA Performers’ Trust Foundation which administers grants for the encouragement of the performing arts. For all other recordings, the funds payable in respect of the relevant track are sent to the controlling record label for distribution to artists in accordance with their individual record company agreements. : see www.ppca.com.au/artist_faq.htm

Yes here it is about compilation CDsAlthough, usually the actual contract that is signed by an artist with the label will deal with copyright issues (ie assignment of copyright in lyrics and composition and performance to the label, with a fixed or percentage fee distributed back to the artist under teh contract in relation to single and album releases and possibly also certain or all public performances) - what the actual arrangement Damien has with Sony is not known and likely to remain that way.

I finally thought of a question. You'd think there would be plenty of things to ask but I can't think of anything much that we don't already know. Ok here's what I asked but I'll try and think of something better:
I read somewhere after idol that you supposedly said you would like to sing with Jess Mouboy one day. Do you think you might ever do a duet together? I loved the two of you singing the U2 song One on idol but an original would be great too. ;D

Because 4 or 5 x platinum x 48.75% x ~$20 (income just from TWJ alone) would make him very rich. EDIT: Hang on... that can't be right, can it? That sounds like a lot of money to earn for one album, especially when he only wrote two of the songs on it. Oh well, he definitely deserves whatever he earns IMO. EDIT 2: Okay so it's 70000 for platinum, but that's still heaps.
