Great big Dawnie. Thank you for sharing too. So sad about your son's friend and I'm glad you're a rhino! Hugs for you too, Nicki.

Oh Dawnie and Womby... so glad you are still here on DLO to talk about it. It just goes to show what a wonderful forum this is, firstly for the comeraderie and secondly that each and every individual here has their own story to share, and have so generously done that in this thread. I so hope that sharing your innermost 'secrets' has been therapeutic.
I think the major problem is that it is sometimes difficult to know if a person is suffering because at least in my DD's case, she covered it up well - fortunately her fiance (now husband) was a tower of strength and handled much before they even confided in the rest of the family and I believe that once the cat was out of the bag it made it easier for her.
I've had dark times, but not to the same extent - I was diagnosed as being 'mildly' depressed a few years ago. I won't say more as its not quite the same as some of you have been through, but just want to let you know I've been part way there.

Big hugs. It's so common for people to keep stuff in. I hope that anyone and everyone who needs help or even just a kind word can find the strength to ask for it. And I hope that those who are close to them can be smart enough to say RUOK even if it doesn't seem like it's needed.
A wonderful initiative that will make a difference I believe.

There is a marvellous show on the ABC called Australian Story that has been going for several years. Each week they profile someone and do their story. On the 12th September they profiled Gavin Larkin who founded R U OK Day 3 years ago. Hopefully this link will work www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/826942
