Really loved the fact that Damien had a chance to express his thoughts in these articles today about his originals and discuss the impact of Remember June and the follow on. I will probably have to get blood pressure meds if I dwell too much on the fate of Remember June other than to say that whatever charts say, whatever sales say, Damien should always be proud of his finest original work to date and history will always show it to be a magnificent artistic achievement. I think I can safely say everyone here loves it and always will. I can't say how much I respect Damien for getting up in the morning, starting out again, slogging for months at touring and keeping going after that time. Not only is his determination endlessly inspiring to me but also his grace and ability to still give so much and infuse his continuing work, whether covers or originals, with so much beauty - that takes something special, and a very strong heart. It's beautiful the way Barbara Orbison stood beside Damien and affirmed to the music world what a talent he has. It's an acknowledgement of his voice, his talent and his work that he's been welcomed into a very hallowed circle of singer songwriters to place his songs alongside - that's so special and rare and I'm reflecting on that at the moment too, as a place along his path where these roads meet. Yes, we as audiences love his originals and it's great to see that so many general fans from all over are backing that up on Damien's FB today. The covers are great too and I always enjoy them but most exciting and so fantastic to see with this album is they will sit alongside Damien's originals and bring the Now and Then together. I just can't wait to hear them in full! I hope it does so well for him and that the Now will be allowed to shine even futher into the future and we'll see more and more originals and he won't ever again feel hesitant about that.

Sorry Shims, but I guess I don't see things through your rose-colored glasses. :-/I'm worried about this album and where Damien is going. I agree though that his work ethic and ability to "just get on with it" is incredibly admirable.

Geez Shims, I hope you're sitting down after that sugar rush! Sorry Shims, but I guess I don't see things through your rose-colored glasses. :-/I'm worried about this album and where Damien is going. I agree though that his work ethic and ability to "just get on with it" is incredibly admirable. Thanks for the apology, I wasn't sure how to take your original comment towards me. I say things exactly as I see them, or I wouldn't bother involving myself enough to post a comment. I'm sure we all wish the very best for Damien and his work

I guess I am not able to be as continually optimistic as you are, I see the downsides. I don't like the idea that Damien has had to sew his heart back into his chest after what happened to RJ and now has to compromise his artistic side to meet the expectations of those who didn't like it, being completely frank. This countrified direction is also difficult for me to adjust to, originals or not, so I suppose I have a decision to make after I hear the entire album. Sigh. Please forgive my outburst, I'm feeling rather emotional about things right now.

Oh yay, I'm so glad there was a good article about the album in at least two papers this weekend. The only one I saw was that short piece in the Sun Herald which made Now & Then sound like an entire album of covers - pretty disappointing. :-\ (And the photo in the Sun Herald was an old one ... they should've just had a picture of the album cover so that people will recognise it in the shops, IMO.) I agree that D should definitely be very proud of RJ despite the low sales, so it's good to hear that he is still happy with RJ. I'll always love that album. And I've never heard an original song of Damien's that I haven't liked, so I'm really looking forward to hearing the originals on Now & Then. Thanks for posting the articles, Smiley and Glawz. And thanks for the pic, Shims.

I of course liked all of Damien's albums with my favorite "Roy" and then "RJ" however it appears that the buying public want him to do covers and I think realistically that he has to go this way or at least part this way otherwise the albums are not going to be contenders unfortunately at this stage until his own songs gain that acceptance in the eyes of the general public as the covers are doing at the moment it is the way he most go and I think his management team would have canvassed this thoroughly.

If anyone was to look back on posts in the weeks before ROY was released, we may see that there was a lot of the same concerns for the release of that album! I think we have to remember that until the day that Damien has a bottomless pit of money to fund his own career and recording, he is an EMPLOYEE! of SONY!!!!!! He can give all the input he likes into his music but the bottom line is that his BOSS will make the final decisions. After the commercial failure (and I cringe to say that ) of RJ, they are not likely to fund an all originals album any time soon. Haven't you all worked for someone who valued your talent but never really gave you the freedom to do what you wanted?

Haven't you all worked for someone who valued your talent but never really gave you the freedom to do what you wanted? Deb, yep D is a Sony employee, definitely. He has contractual obligations he must honour, no question. We all get that, I think when it comes to the timing of album releases and the directions they give him re what they expect. It's problematical when their demands don't match his artistic vision. Many of us have said that if we had unlimited funds we'd let him do EXACTLY as he pleased and let him find an audience for it, believe me! Fantasyland though, unfortunately. Sigh.

Thanks so much for posting the articles (and the pics). I agree Braffy, that last article was a pretty poor effort compared to the other two! I don't think it even mentioned his originals did it? (Maybe I didn't read it well enough). It was interesting to read the questions and answers article and to hear what Damien had to say. I'll always love RJ, and was playing it today. Roxy, I wonder too whether D wants us to let it slide into the background or if he doesn't mind us mentioning about how much we love it. Anyway, it's good that we are hearing about this album and I can't wait for its release ~ not long to wait now.

I think Damien would be as pleased as punch to know how much we all love RJ and continue to support it. That is his recognition that it is as good as what he thinks it is !
