oh, I missed you Braffy.. Thanks for the post. I'm taking too long to write, as usual
Well all I can say is that Damien really made my week
and going by the enthusiasm of a number of people in the audience... he is certainly luuuurved
...
Mind you, I was running a bit late due to the horrendous traffic getting to Castle Hill (and my stoooopid Nav Sat
) especially sionce we know how Damien is always so punctual
but luckily for me... he was stuck in the same snarls and was also running late
So my first view of the stage was firstly a 4-poster bed complete fine netting canopy drenched in pink lighting... I kid you not! By this time I'm thinking that Damien's really gonna put on a very special show
Imagining "Beautiful" sung while reclining on the sumptuous pillows... (slap!
wakey wakey LOL) Then there are two guitarists doing sound check and officials looking nervously at the growing audience... And I see the contingent of
taking up the front & centre seats
but then there he is: WOOHOO!! (excited whoops all round
) Definitely looking very sharp in his black pointy boots, jeans, jacket and tie and a white shirt. Damo was looking
super fine
A bit of chit chat with the MC who mentioned that he was/is the only contestant she has ever voted for on any show
then onto the main attraction
Damien started witha gutsy version of "I Won't Back Down". Very toe-tapping and the crowd enjoyed it. I really enjoyed hearing it with the 3 guitars.
Then Damien moved into a gorgeous version of "Here Comes the Sun" - the original song I've always loved and with the slight changes to the melody of the guitar arrangement, like he put his own stamp on it. AND IT WORKS! I just couldn't help but have a little rocking-sway to it
it still sounded so sweet (don't worry, not saccharine) and perfect for such a great sun-shiney day, today.
For the final song, Damien talked about the evolution of "Beautiful" and then went into it.
This is the first time I've seen/heard Damien have a backing track - I guess it creates a certain mood to the song. But even if he didn't use one I know the song so well that I could swear all the other cd effects were playing
It's still my favourite and so I just closed my eyes and took it all in.
One woman, busy setting up her phone to film, kept blurting to her ever-so-patient-looking hubby (I presume) "I can't believe he's here
I HAVE to show this to the girls!" then, as she realised the signing queue was forming during the last song, left him with filming duties so she could line up too
Looking at his screen, she sould be very pleased with his effort (good man!). The Sanity guys didn't have to twist my arm too much to get me to buy the cd.. amidst my weak protests of "But my kids are buying it for me for Mother's Day!"... lol, I realised I couldn't resist any longer and that's ok
... one for the car and one for the house
I'll just bring the signed one in after Mother's Day
