O M G!!Truthfully people, I don't know whether it was because I was so Damien deprived, or whether it really was one of the very best shows he has done.
This was a fantastic show, enjoyed it immensely - which you might have gathered from my previous post!
The band were all so tight, the patter amazing (more later), Damien at his best (apart from typically forgetting some words
) and I swear he gets more handsome every time we see him, knockout gorgeous!!
Firstly, Diana Rouvas - Diana didn't disappoint.. she was so..oooo good.
After hearing her live I believe she reminds me of Barbra Streisand, only better looking (& a different style of course). She reaches those high notes effortlessly - sure she does pull a lot of faces, but she has a beautiful face and expresses emotion perfectly as well with her hands and body movements. She looked absolutely gorgeous in black pants and a low cut, sleeveless 'v' neck top, both in a polyester type fabric, accessorised by a 'geometric' style necklace in yellow and silver. Hair swept up... she looked gorgeous and very slim.
She performed alone with Eric on guitar. I could have missed out one song but think I have it right.
1. A song which she and Eric co-wrote, she didn't give the title.
2. I can't make you love me (beautiful)
3. If we never said hello
4. Wonderful world (gorgeous version, very laid back and her own)
5. Heads or tails
6. Love on top - awesome
7. Stormy Monday - this just blew me away... those really high notes were ear popping, just wonderful.
Prior to the last song Eric made a comment that perhaps she shouldn't sing Stormy Monday because last time she sang it she was booted off the Voice. All in all a fantastic curtain raiser and they did complement each other beautifully.
Now, our gorgeous man. Black jeans, black shirt, grey jacket, brown belt and shoes which did surprisingly look pretty good, but hey, who was looking at the shoes
Honestly when he walked out I nearly fainted, gosh he's looking good!
He saw Ange and I sitting centre front row and smiled
The band (usual), Eric, Chris (surprisingly after the new baby), Caeser and Steve.
Did we know that Steve and his wife reacently had a daughter? I think so, but mentioning it in case everybody didn't know.
Set List:
1. Unless you Say so. Wonderful live, the chorus really rocked.
2. Won't back down - so much better live
3. Not just for the weekend
4. Here comes the sun.
5. Beautiful. and he did plug the fact that Estee Lauder the song had had worldwide exposure.
6. You Got it.... great live
7. Leah - what can you say about this...; swoon!!!
8. I'll be your baby tonight
(Damien made a bit of a joke about Bob Dylan and that when he was young his dad made him listen to him and he didn't like him.... did a funny impression of how he thought Dylan sounded) funny... However he did say how much he respected him now that he was older.
9. Running Scared... OMG I have always loved Damien doing this song... and that note... boy he has a good set of tonsils!
10. SURPRISE.... Grannies song!!! EEWW! Obviously not everybody there dislikes this song as much as me, it got a good crowd reaction.
12. Hallelujah - Well, what can you say about Damien's handling of this standard
13. Run..... with Diana. I meant to ask him was it Diana on the album, but it was all a bit rushed and forgot to.
14. Maybe Someday... WITH THOSE HIGH NOTES!! WOW!!
Surprisingly at the end of this song, it went into a short version of
15. Live and let Die
16. Handle with Care
17. Let me be your rescue. Swoon...
.
18. End of the line ;D
19. All I want is you (with audience participation singing high notes.)
20. Goodnight
Encore:
21. I Got my mind set on you
I think it was in here that Damien introduced all the boys in the band and when it got to Eric, with his 'wireless' guitar he left the stage and bounced around through the audience, didn't miss a beat or a note. Great stuff, great showman!
22. Pretty Woman
re the patter... there were plenty of jokes about pooey nappies and Damien told the audience about Steve, and Chris' new additions. He talked about his kids too, lovely.
I honestly can't remember everything, but Damien said that last time he was in Launceston, Eric and he played golf and he accidentally hit a duck with a golf ball. They went out and played again on Saturday morning, and this time Damien was chased by a duck... wondered if it was the same one. As he was being pursued by the duck, he was wondering if ducks had sharp teeth, or in fact if they had any teeth, whether they could bite hard etc.... with Eric displaying how Damien warded off the duck with a golf club (looking rather like one of the 3 musketeers
with a sword)... it was very funny, guess you had to be there.
The venue has a seating capacity of 450 and it was chockers. They are a geriatric lot down there (of course I don't include ourselves). Some quite elderly people, from a quick look I would think about 75% were over 60 ( many well over!!) and maybe 25% 20 - 50. I know that doesn't add up but you get the drift.
George was selling albums and both novels, and after the show all he had left were two copies of One More Time... said Now and Then and Roy had gone off pretty quickly, good sales in Hobart as well. Regardless of age, the audience did really get into it, there were quite a few whistles from mid room after each song, lots of applause and generally they all loved it (what's not to love?
) Standing ovation at the end of the show... well deserved.
There was a signing after the show, quite a long line and I waited and was near the end. I managed to snaffle a set list and Damien kindly signed it for me, had a couple of photos taken. There were three girls in front of me who were a little
strange' shall we say, and had a few requests which Damien didn't necessarily wish to do, however he was his gorgeous patient self and handled what could have been an awkward situation very tactfully.
As for me, I didn't act my age even though Mr G was with me
and Krissy will be pleased I did quite a few SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! Had some Strepsils in the bag though which came in handy!
Well and truly in teh coma now.... I'll go and let you read this novel. Will post pics tomorrow as have to unpack and get washing on etc.
