Hmmmmm. Good to see the publicity machine springing into action .... but I don't get the cover. The girl doesn't look like she is in Ireland or Nepal. The cover actually makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. Given it is supposed to be about a young man's journey, why isn't there a photo of a bloke .... I'm obviously mising something so perhaps I'll just stick my head back in the box, ha! Were you expecting something like this with a bit of tarten perhaps

Trilly I initially thought it was a sitar but on closer inspection it looks too big and looks more like a guitar.

I've thought about it more. I actually dislike the cover. There, I've said it. She's too obviously a model, not a real person. And I don't like the gratuitous off the shoulder clothing business - s it meant to appeal to a male market? I like to read in cafes and restaurants. I would feel uncomfortable carrying around that cover. I thought the book was supposed to be a thriller? I'm so confused. Mind you, that bloke in a tartan kilt would also be wrong (but in so many otherways!). It's obvious I hardly ever buy fiction, maybe that's what's on all the covers these days? Arrgh ... I'm beginning to sound like our dear forum member OldDanTucker aka Crankypants [/rant] Edit - Oh, well, like Winterlong, I do like the font. And the author

I so agree with you dede. There are so many cover images that could have been created just from the initial blurb that you posted a few weeks ago. I know that my imagination was working overtime! There are also some beautiful images of Nepal and surrounds, which are freely available on line and would make a stunning backdrop without adding too much more detail. Bye the bye, I'm so looking forward to reading the book and if Damien wants each page illustrated, he'd best speak to us.

I agree the cover doesn't convey much of what I believe the novel is about, but D did say it had a romantic element. The scene is quite eyecatching and exotic, and that can often be a reason to read a blurb, for me. Besides, I love anything to do with that region, so am a goner anyway.

Well, she better be a guitar/sitar player or i'm going to have the publishers up for false advertising to learn to understand metaphor better.

Gawd GJ, that is horrible! People actually buy that thing?! Why??? The line "line refrigerator box was his love den" creeps me out! *shudder* Seriously though, I love the book cover. Perhaps it's just the thrill of seeing Damien's name on a BOOK!!! I'll have to read this quickly or I'll salivate all over it before I get the chance. I love how his name is written on the front - very common for authors - and I think the image is very alluring, it combines intrigue and sinister undertones with culture and a reassuring splash of colour, it looks very promising. I can't wait to check out his writing style! He communicates so well through his music, it's true, but I feel I'll really get to know him through his writing style, I get a real thrill from finding writers with a similar writing style to me, so here's hoping he's not one of those trendy minimalist authors [/bibliophile's rant]

Well, that is a relief! Hyperrune can lead the Wednesday Night Book Club and protect the publisher's arse explain me metaphor to me.

Damnit, Trilly! Story arcs, metaphor, aphorisms, gnomes, rhetoric - too bloody confusing. I'm sticking to simple, cold hard facts and analysis. But of course I'm gonna read this, and give it to everybody for Christmas
