Sorry Kris, but it cracks me up picturing you calling him 'our boy' when he's happily married and almost twice your age

Hmmm, at least with the "off the shoulder" girl on the cover, we know for sure the "naughty bits" are tucked away in that text somewhere

Gawd GJ, that is horrible! People actually buy that thing?! Why??? The line "line refrigerator box was his love den" creeps me out! *shudder* Seriously though, I love the book cover. Perhaps it's just the thrill of seeing Damien's name on a BOOK!!! I'll have to read this quickly or I'll salivate all over it before I get the chance. I love how his name is written on the front - very common for authors - and I think the image is very alluring, it combines intrigue and sinister undertones with culture and a reassuring splash of colour, it looks very promising. I can't wait to check out his writing style! He communicates so well through his music, it's true, but I feel I'll really get to know him through his writing style, I get a real thrill from finding writers with a similar writing style to me, so here's hoping he's not one of those trendy minimalist authors [/bibliophile's rant] Hyp its not a real book

I can assure you Damien is not a minimalist writer - I have read a tiny snippet.
I don't like having a real person/model on the cover, but the colourful edge is something a bit different which will show if it is face out on the shelf. The blurb in the brochure is the same as before, and as I said previously, I hope it isn't the blurb on the book but fear that it is. Another thing which can't be guessed at until the book comes out is how different the cover is from all the other books released in Oct. A couple of months ago nearly all the new books were beige/brown/yellow/orange, and it makes it hard for one to stand out unless it is different. 600 pages is a large book, and that will put quite a lot of people off. I have never understood why one fat book is more difficult than two thinner ones, but that is Joe Public for you. Just checked the shelves (I'm at work ;D) and the latest Robin Hobb is 618 pp. Not too thick in trade paperback but it will be hefty when it goes to small format.
Just waiting for my reading copy!!!!!

Shows how much I know. When I read your post, I thought you said "the latest Robin Hood"

Thanks so much for the scoop Kath ! Must have been a thrill to uncover that little snippet amongst the usual work stuff... Ditto re: cover (not like much) but I wonder is that really the final cover? WTG Damien!! eta: On 2nd look, I really hate the cover...lol! Faceless beautiful woman?!?! Hmmm.... BUT...am still thrilled for D and will certainly be buying

The best bit about the cover: Damien LeithThe only bit I don't particularly like is the bare shoulder but the colours are good and overall I can't find anything to really object to. Do people choose a book based on the cover? I know I don't but then I guess if something grabs my attention I might then buy it where I wouldn't have before. I think the attention grabbing part is "Damien Leith ". A lot of books I read (and I read a lot) have fairly obscure artwork and huge authors name . I generally buy books on recommendation, review, or author. Damien will get plenty of publicity with this book and if it's any good then he could have anything on the cover & it would sell. It must be hugely exciting to be a published author. Congratulations Damien!!

Here is info from HarperCollins' brochure of October releases. Notice the number of pages - this is no Nicholas Sparks novel ;D Hmm, the more I look at this cover, the more evocative it seems. C'mon guys, what's wrong with a little smexiness? D said it has "naughty bits* (LOL Hyp) , and I'm feeling the sense of mystery and foreboding in an exotic location. Thanks so much for the preview, Kath. :)Really looking forward to reading it, particularly as I too am fascinated with the idea of discovering D's writing. ;D

Thanks kath for all this wonderful info, and showing us the cover of the book too.. ;D. I can't believe how many people here are not liking the cover! is it because the woman is showing her shoulder!....and boy what a nice shoulder it is too!! you are the same people are you not that don't mind Damien undoing a few buttons and showing us his chest/package?...but you don't like a bare shoulder on a woman!! I'm liking the cover alot, it's very erotic like Trilly says, and I think fits well with what this book is about from D said anyway, didn't he say there was a bit of a romantic feel to it too? and I agree it will stand out on the shelves, which will be fantastic for sales. ;D Way to go D
