Thanks kath for all this wonderful info, and showing us the cover of the book too.. ;D. I can't believe how many people here are not liking the cover! is it because the woman is showing her shoulder!....and boy what a nice shoulder it is too!! you are the same people are you not that don't mind Damien undoing a few buttons and showing us his chest/package?...but you don't like a bare shoulder on a woman!! I'm liking the cover alot, it's very erotic like Trilly says, and I think fits well with what this book is about from D said anyway, didn't he say there was a bit of a romantic feel to it too? and I agree it will stand out on the shelves, which will be fantastic for sales. ;D Way to go D umm, I said exotic, hun, not erotic..haha..but hey, let's go with that!! bwhaha! I'm liking both too, so yeah lets do that!! I won't confess to not having the dreaded glasses on![/i]

Thanks so much Kath! It's so great to finally see the cover and isn't it exciting to see Damien's name on it!! And 600 pages ;D ;D Should keep us busy in October/November between running around concerts! Since we're all throwing in our 2c worth - as we are inclined to do I don't mind the shoulder-girl at all. Damien always said it had a romantic element, so I'm assuming she must be the one central to the story, and I am now wondering about that guitar, is it hers, is it his, etc etc... just that alone starts the mystery ticking along, is music something to do with the story between the two of them. I like her outfit, it seems like a native sort of costume from the print, so it's evocotive of the region perhaps... I love the colours used around that for the book itself, really sets it off with the colour and vibrancy of the region which would be very noticable to an Irishman traveling used to a palette of softer tones of chocolate & green. I'm intrigued! Bring it on - all 600 pages - cannot wait to read!!

for Roxy Now I'm still thinking thinking.... there are clues in this picture regarding the title maybe? When I first heard the title I thought it might mean Sean was retracing the steps of his story in his mind, "one more time" but now maybe it's to do with her playing her music to him "one more time" - in his memory, or really in the story somewhere.... or maybe even that he wishes he could be with her "one more time"... ahh I love it, all the speculation! yep that's kinda what I said too, just in a different way!! lol - I had to laugh, leave it to one of the original to turn exotic into erotic

I can assure you Damien is not a minimalist writer - I have read a tiny snippet. I don't like having a real person/model on the cover, but the colourful edge is something a bit different which will show if it is face out on the shelf. The blurb in the brochure is the same as before, and as I said previously, I hope it isn't the blurb on the book but fear that it is. Another thing which can't be guessed at until the book comes out is how different the cover is from all the other books released in Oct. A couple of months ago nearly all the new books were beige/brown/yellow/orange, and it makes it hard for one to stand out unless it is different. 600 pages is a large book, and that will put quite a lot of people off. I have never understood why one fat book is more difficult than two thinner ones, but that is Joe Public for you. Just checked the shelves (I'm at work ;D) and the latest Robin Hobb is 618 pp. Not too thick in trade paperback but it will be hefty when it goes to small format. Just waiting for my reading copy!!!!! I love reading your thoughts, Kath, I used to work in a bookstore too and loved watching what made good displays or what interested customers. For me, I love a beautifully made book - love opening it, breathing in the new pages, holding it open to see how it falls in the hands, looking at the texture of the paper and the contrast of the print against the page. Sometimes I'll just look at a book like that then put it away again and do that many times before reading it just to enjoy the book itself for a while as an object before reading what's inside. needless to say - I never brought home a lot of my pay from when I worked in the bookstore... just a lot of books!

Shims, I just love working where I do. I love books like that too, the smell, the feel, the look. I love doing the book displays in the front of our shop - always make sure to put contrasting covers next to each other, that kind of thing - and read lots of reviews. We also have what we call 'shelf talkers' - little cards that sit under the book on the shelf, and on which staff recommend books. It always gives me a kick when someone comes to the till with a book I have recommended and tells me this is why they chose it. It's so wonderful to have a great job
