I think this was also the point of Damien and his manager's interview this morning on the radio - that Sony has run out copies to ship to stores.

I'm surprised there aren't more male Damien fans out there. I think it's just me and Jim over here. No, I wasn't that guy on Sunrise. Believe me, if I got anywhere near Damien, I'd go very stupid and tongue tied. |

No, Sunshine you need to re-read my post .We know it has already gone Platinum in its first week - they seem to be talking about today's calculations which will be announced on Sunday night - that it is Three Platinum - ie 3 x 70,000 sales. I love Damien like everyone here, but I think we should all take a cold shower for now. If indeed it has gone 3 x platinum, it doesn't mean he has sold 3 x 70,000 units (210,000 units) but that Sony has shipped that number to stores. A better indication of how the cd/dvd is going will be this week's ARIA charts, keeping in mind that it was only on sale for 2 days last week before last Sunday's chart was calculated, and it still came in at # 3! I don't expect it to dislodge the 12th man, but it would be great if it could either maintain or better #3. Regarding the single, does anyone know how many units it has actually sold ie. including all the Sanity and HMV sales from the first week that weren't initially included in the ARIA chart? |

Oh, we're all very aware of what 3xPlatinum would actually mean - how could we not be, with our good friend Paul Cashmere to remind us on a regular basis?  But we don't just have this to go on - most of us have observed stock being moved very quickly through stores, and there was some comment about Damien being the "fastest selling Idol" which could only be talking about the CD/DVD since we know that Guy's debut single sold faster. So there is no doubt in my mind that he's doing well at this point. We'll get a better picture from the official figures, but it really looks at this stage like they're going to be something to be proud of as well, whether he really is three times platinum or two or still one. On the single sales, I remember someone mentioning somewhere how many copies were sold through Sanity in the first week. Don't know if anyone knows about HMV, but if you search the media threads from a couple of weeks back you should find something in there. |

Hell yes, how could any of us not be aware of the difference between singles shipped and singles shopped...dont worry there gluttonmutton, we have all been 'educated' thanks to certain media articles! Can I say though that that is not going to stop me celebrating? The fact that he moved so many units IN THE FIRST 2 DAYS OF SALES (18,433!) seems to have prompted this mass shipping for a pretty good reason, and this has been backed up by reports that D has become the fastest selling Idol! So yeah...a pretty pleasing result! Having D do Hallelujah at carols should make for some interesting figures as well...seeing as Hallelujah is on the album, I wonder if he will reach a non-Idol audience and boost sales even more? Just speculating....  |
