Damien, I have a dear friend who is an absolutely besotted fan of yours. She would be a true Damienite if she had internet access where she lives out in the sticks, but in the meantime has to satisfy herself with what I share with her. Anyway, she has asked me to post her story and offer you special thanks. She had major dental surgery yesterday, extremely traumatic for anyone, but even more so for someone who is phobic. To try and avert a major panic attack (which, for those who don't know about these terrors, can involve screaming, throwing items, hitting the dentist, etc..all equally humiliating), her best strategy was to buy a CD walkman with earphones and use your voice singing LOUD to cover the sounds of drilling (or anything else for that matter). She had it all worked out: she could press "replay" without having to open her eyes and thus hear her favourite song over and over again. I won't go into details (mainly because they ARE really horrible), but at one stage the dentist shouted to her that she was going to have to do something particularly awful.... that then proved very difficult. Apparently, the agony ended in a successful conclusion at exactly the moment that you hit the final high note in Nessum Dorma! (a fitting finale, she felt:) She asked me to thank you most sincerely for your (unwitting) assistance yesterday...she couldn't have done it without you!

Wow - hope your friend isn't feeling too much pain still. I'm glad Damien's music could be of help.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, guys.xx
Basically, as a teenager she had a number of porcelain teeth veneers stuck onto teeth posts when most of the teeth were knocked out in an accident. Over the years, the teeth underneath have slowly deteriorated, until they split into numerous pieces...but still firmly attached at the roots, requiring surgical removal. She had ME in tears today telling me of her ordeal, and I was so very proud of her for being so brave, too. Thank you very much for your good wishes, I will pass them on to her. xx

Christyl please give your friend a pat on the back and a big hug from me for being so brave yesterday. That took so much courage and she should be very proud of herself. You are such a compassionate, understanding friend as well, I'm sure she appreciates having a caring friend like you so much. That's so touching - Damien certainly has the power of healing, it would be hard to be anxious listening to D's voice. Well done to your friend - I bet she feels so much relief to have her teeth fixed now. A huge gold star to her.
Hugs, Belinda

Big hugs to your friend Christyl, what a brave girl! I'm also phobic when it comes to dentists so I can sympathize with her. I'm going to use her strategy next time I have a dental appointment, simply fantastic idea! ;D Big hugs to you as well for being there for your friend.

... sorry i shouldn't laugh at the expense of your friend but... what a great idea. i've been told i have to have very minor dental work in April. i told them that i don't want an anaesthetic and the dentist looked shocked but said okay. Hopefully Damien's new album will be out before my appointment so that i can be suitably entertained. Damien...did you get that?...new album...before April....please btw christyl - i hope your friend is feeling much better and that the dentist is well recovered

I do believe that the dentist was almost as traumatised as she was. (Do you know that dentists have the highest suicide rate of any profession? I wonder why!!) Thanks for enquiring, guys. She is much better today, I think some of the adrenalin is finally wearing off.

Thanks very much for enquiring, guys...I will pass on your messages, and she will be tickled pink. Naturally, her teeth are still very sore, but she is generally much better today: I think some of the adrenalin is finally wearing off...
