I've forgotten what Damien said to Holden ODT. Can it be repeated here or PM me please? I meant generally - it's no secret that Holden went through a phase where he really didn't want Damien to win and the behind the scenes footage around the time of Celebration and SSTBTHW shows him and Kyle really bagging Damien big time. And then Damien comes out with Wicked Game - BAM! Crying - BAM! Hallelujah - BAM! Nessun Dorma - BAM! and completely changed the game...

I always thought "The Winner's Journey" DVD was a little bit lacking in the actual journey. By this I mean, they included all the wonderful songs, but they didn't include any judges comments, or any of the other footage that was shot and played during idol (ie: photo shoots, behind the scenes, dance classes, etc). I think all of that should have been included to make it an accurate record of the Winner's journey. However, perhaps Mark & Kyle were too embarassed to have their comments included as they just got it so wrong so many times!!! Some of their comments are on the Aust Idol Top 12 DVD, and you can see back then that Mark is not a massive supporter of Damien at that time. At that time he was sure Dean had the package!!! I agree with ODT they couldn't ignore the "BAM BAM BAM" of Wicked Game onwards! (I would have included Message to My Girl in the BAM as well!!)

Thx ODT. Actually both Mark and Kyle do give reasonable critiques to D on the top 12 album although I think one or two are cut. Kyle actually says after You Are So Beautiful that Damien has all it takes to sell albums. It's a while since I listened to that so I may be misremembering. I'll look at it again over the next day or so. I doubt that any of us disagree that Damien was the best right from the start.

Was it Mark or Kyle that told Damien not to "hide behind the piano" after he sang Message To My Girl? That was stupid, it sounded really nice the whole way through, and getting up from the piano half way through would have interrupted the flow of the song. And it's not like he played the piano every week, he mixed up his performances a bit, unlike some of the others who did similar things every week. The only other time he played the piano was during Sky, wasn't it? And they didn't even judge Sky so that doesn't count. And anyway, Sky was awesome. ;D

I don't remember that Spud I remember Mark saying something like Damien was more Elton Bong on the piano than Elton John and Marsha reminded listeners that pianos go out of tune when moved, which that one had just been. I thought Damien did a fine job and staying at the piano was just the right thing to do for that performance.

Yes, I have said eleswhere- whilst Kyle didn't vote at the auditions to put Damien thru, he pretty much from the start said D had what it takes. But Mark got him in (pretty important I know ) and then proceeded to rip him to shreds and pigeon-hole him as some old crooner at every opportunity. He didn't change his tune until it was obvious he couldn't fight the tide of support D had. I've never understood the comments about the piano playing- & I remember reading somewhere where Eileen posted (EB maybe?) that it is an electric piano- so moving it wouldn't put it out of tune. I'm not a very musical person but it sounded fine to me.
