Generally speaking if there is a photo of an author it is on the back cover, so I although I wouldn't recommend tearing it out, it makes for easy viewing :-)
I was just a bit disappointed in that write up - I didn't think it would make customers want to buy the book if they were just in the shop to pick something up. The blurb on the back is very important in getting those kind of sales.
Mind you, so is the opinion of the sales staff (read ME) and I will be pushing it for all I am worth ;D

I agree with Kath. I don't know about anyone else but when looking at new books if the first few lines on the back cover doesn't jump out at me I tend to put it down and look at something else. Personally, I would have started with the series of questions to hightlight the "mysterious element" of the novel, hoping that the reader would be drawn in enough to want to know the answers and hence buy the book.

The blurb was from a Harper Collins's new authors/upcoming publications document (I'll see if I can find it again) so it isn't the back cover blurb. I too expect a more tintillating version on the back cover.

*imagines Kath writing a review so glowing it hurts the eyes of people passing by the shelf* I had thoughts of neon lights........................ I just hope that I really do like it and can honestly promote it - I'm going to be in the do-do if it's not something I like *thinks chances of this happening are tiny*
