No idea what LPA stands for ... but tG, I don't have to vote for this one ... Just to be nominated ... at this time in his career ... How are they selected?

You have to enter.
Then one of the Helpmann Awards Nominating Panels considers the entries. The panels comprise representatives of the live performance industry, including the LPA Executive Council and previous Helpmann Award winners, in addition to other prominent industry practitioners. Panelists include artists, creatives, arts administrators, writers, journalists, producers, promoters, venue managers and educators.
The Helpmann Awards Administration Committee selects the Panel Chairs who then appoint Panelists to ensure broad geographic and artistic representation.
Once all entries in the Awards are received, each Panel meets in late June and considers the entries. The Panels then select up to four entries for nomination per category, and recommend any entry within the artistic discipline to the Industry Awards Panel for consideration for the Industry Award nominations.
Contemporary Music Panel:
Panel Chair Jan Stoneham LPA Life Member
Deputy Chair Craig McMaster Showbiz International
Panel Members listed in alphabetical order.
David Anderson - The Victorian Arts Centre Malcolm Blaylock - Darwin Festival Ross Cunningham - Star City Tony Davies - Chameleon Touring Services Don Elford - Acer Arena Christie Eliezer - Billboard Magazine Derek Guille - ABC Melbourne Luke Hede - Dainty Consolidated Entertainment Ed Nimmervoll - The Herald Sun Amanda Pelman - Chugg Entertainment Nick Weare - Screen Sound Australia Wilbur Wilde - Musician/Entertainer

I wonder how many entries they chose the nominees out of? Is there any way we can find out? This is so exciting - I'm not sure how much of a chance Damien has against other established acts, but he and his tour definitely deserve to be up there alongside them.

..and for you trivia buffs, it appears that D is the only Idol graduate to ever get an individual nomination for a Helpmann...
(the 2004 Idol tour recieved a single nomination in 2004, but thats it!)
