Using Photobucket

All photos on the forum are to be in the form of Thumbnails. Here is how you achieve this using photobucket: Once loaded click the little box underneath the picture, then scroll down to bottom on the page. You will see a Generate HTML and IMG Code Click this button, then you will get the five options to post. Pick the third one - IMG clickable thumbnails and post that to the message.



1. Log into your photobucket account - www.photobucket.com (or create an account)

2. A grey box should be at the top with the title UPLOAD IMAGES AND VIDEO. Click browse and select the picture from your computer that you want to upload. Hit the UPLOAD 'EM button.

3. Either highlight the image’s URL code, it’s IMG (image) code or check the small white box and click Generate HTML And IMG Code



For URL and IMG codes: Paste them into your posts – WARNING if the image is big it will take long for the pictures to load up and view for those people with dial up connections.

For Generate HTML And IMG Code – After you have clicked the Generate HTML And IMG Code a page will load with 5 boxes/codes. The one that you want to use for thumbs is the third down highlight the code and paste it into your post…

Just thought I'd give this a little bump up. Some of the photos posted can be a bit to large, and take a bit to load (especially when coming in more than a few at a time). And some members could still have dial up

Took me a while to work this out. Anyway I have it sorted. So I'll post this in case it helps anyone else.

Load photos to photobucket as normal

Thats ok GJ. It will help the board if we all get into the habit of doing this. A bit more work involved, but worth it in the end. ;D

UPDATED PHOTOBUCKET TUTORIAL

Photobucket recently made changes to the layout of their site (and added some nice new features). Although none of these changes really affect the process of uploading photos, the site does look a bit different, and when things look different, it can sometimes confuse people, so here are some updated instructions for using Photobucket (and for posting images on DLO).



UPLOADING PHOTOS

1. Log in to your Photobucket account, then click the green 'Upload now' button.



2. Select where you want to upload the photos from (usually 'My computer') and which album you want to upload them to (your choice).
3. Click 'Select photos and videos'.
4. Find where the images are saved (holding down Ctrl (or Shift) to select multiple files), and click 'Open' (or press Enter).





5. After the images are uploaded, cilck 'Save and continue to my album'.



POSTING IMAGES

If you put your mouse over an image in one of your Photobucket albums, a list of different codes will appear. If posting sigs, smileys, or full size Hut pretteh, you can just copy and paste the 'IMG code', by clicking on the code (the 'copy' occurs automatically), then pasting the code into your post, by either right clicking in your post (with your cursor in the position where you would like the image to appear) then left clicking the 'Paste' option, or by pressing Ctrl+V on your keyboard (again, with your cursor in the position where you would like the image to appear).

Your image won't be displayed until you actually post the message (or when you preview the post). If you have thumbnail code in your post, then you've copied and pasted it correctly, so you don't need to delete it or edit it or do anything extra. ProBoards will recognise the code and create your clickable thumbnail for you.





POSTING CLICKABLE THUMBNAILS

Usually on DLO you will need to upload clickable thumbnails rather than full size images.

In case you don't know what a clickable thumbnail is (or if you just like looking at photos of Damien ), here is a clickable thumbnail. (Click to enlarge.)



Actually, all the images in this tutorial are clickable thumbnails.

The code for clickable thumbnails unfortunately does not appear automatically in the list of codes for the images in your albums.
If you would like the code to appear in the list (which you would ), you will need to change your album settings.

1. Click on your account name (top right, to the left of the search bar), and click 'Account settings'.



2. Click on the 'Album settings' tab and choose which settings you'd like (you don't have to copy all of these settings if you don't want to, but you must have the 'IMG thumb' box checked.



3. Save your settings by clicking the blue 'Save' button at the bottom.
4. Now go back to your album by clicking 'My albums' up the top and navigating to your album.
5. Oooh, look! We now have 'IMG thumb' code. Click on this code to copy it to your clipboard. (Remember, you need to put your mouse over the images in your album to get this list of codes to appear.)
6. Paste the 'IMG thumb' code in your post by either right clicking in your post (with your cursor in the position where you would like the image to appear) then left clicking the 'Paste' option, or by pressing Ctrl+V on your keyboard (again, with your cursor in the position where you would like the image to appear).



Tip #1: Spaces between your images will not just magically appear in your posts. You need to do this manually. You can always preview your post on DLO before posting it to see what your thumbnails will look like, but if you're trying to get them all lined up in a row or something, then it's easiest to think of them as (giant) characters. If you want a space between each image (horizontally), you will need to type a space before and after the image code. If you want a space between each row of images (vertically), you will need to press Enter a couple of times before and after the image code. If you want to put captions underneath your images, then insert the image code, press Enter, then type a caption underneath. If you're just posting heaps of images, it's probably best to put them in rows of about 5.

Note: Do NOT modify the image code (unless you know what you're doing), otherwise it won't work!

Tip #2: Usually, if I am posting quite a few thumbnails, and want to space them out neatly, I type:

<'IMG thumb' code><space>...<space><'IMG thumb' code><space>...<space><'IMG thumb code'>

... etc.

But I make the dots black, like this: [color=black]...[/color] so you can't actually see them. (I use the dots to add extra space because you can't insert more than one actual space unless you type &nbsp;.)



ALBUM PRIVACY

If you click on the album name, then click 'Privacy', you can change the privacy settings for your album. If you make the album public, then when you post your photos (or thumbnails), people will be able to use the links to access any photos they like in your album. Considering you will probably post any photos you actually want people to see, it's likely you don't want your album to be public, so choose the private option. But of course, it's up to you. Click the blue 'Save' button to save your settings.
