Hello All, was wondering whether I could ask a favour of you all, your opinion on an email I am writing to David CHampion and Damien. In reguards to the Charity Auction we want to hold... Dear David and Damien,
Here I am yet again representing and speaking on behalf of the Damienites and Damien Leith Online. We are wondering and hoping whether you could help us retrieve some autographed copies of various 'Damien Leith' items. These items being CD's, posters and even photographs.
Why do you ask, do we need these items? We would all love to celebrate his birthday by giving a gift, a donation to a charity of Damien's choice. I believe that this charity donation has already been run by Eileen, by one of our members?
We alone would contribute our own pocketed money to this cause, but see it as a chance to not only help charity by help promote Damien. We would love to raise as much funds as possible and feel that through the auctioning of 'exclusive' signed Damien items we can enhance the amount raised. This being said, we are more than happy to organise payment for these items, that way you won't be at a loss.
We are getting rather anxious now, this being caused by the announcement of Damien and family going to Ireland this Sunday, for promotion of Night Of My Life and to possibly see family. We can not find any other way or chance to get these signed items at such short notice.
Would you please consider giving and/or selling us these requested autographed valuables (signed before he leaves for Ireland). All money raised through the selling of these items would go directly into an 'account' at the designated charity and none would be pocketed by any member of the Damienites.
Awaiting a response and thanking you for your time, Neski, The Damienites and Damien Leith Online. What do you all think? I want to send this asap so the sooner I get responses and feedback the more useful this email will be All critisim welcomed!

Just regarding this part Neski
I believe that this charity donation has already been run by Eileen, by one of our members?
this doesn't quite make sense - do you mean rung?
Anyway, it's not quite right anyway.
The details are that I wrote to Eileen to ask her to nominate a charity Damien would like to support.
Eileen wrote back and told me that Damien has recently been made a special ambassador for a charity they both support, and that they would love it if our donations could be directed towards that. She was very happy if I went ahead to organise it.
So, I have been in touch with the charity to get precise details for everyone to write to for their donations so we all send it to the same place.
As I haven't heard back by today, I am going to ring them tomorrow for the info, then I can post all the details of which charity it is, etc.

Some of the wording I've used for the charity letter may be helpful here: I'll also post this letter in the charity thread. I'm not disclosing the charity name until we hear from them exactly how they want to organise this. Hello ______, I am contacting you from the details given for Sponsorship and Fundraising on the_______ website. I'm a member of the original supporters' forum for the new Australian Idol, Damien Leith www.dleithonline.proboards101.com/index.cgi and have recently been in touch with Damien's wife Eileen to ask her to nominate a cause which he would like to support. At the forum, we wished to send donations to a good cause to mark Damien's birthday on January 18 rather than send gifts. Eileen has let me know that Damien has recently become an ambassador for the _________ and that this is the cause they would like to support for this donation project. I am going to place Eileen's letter on the forum to let everyone know, but would like to first discuss with you the appropriate manner to send donations. At the forum we thought it best to have no middlemen at all, so no one at the forum will be collecting money - we wished to send it all directly to the _________, to one address with a note from each donator stating that it was from a member of our forum for this project. In that way we were hoping the ___________ would be able to track all the donations and could inform us at the end of the grand total so that we could relay to Damien and Eileen the final tally which was raised for the birthday project. If this is acceptable to you, I'd like to please request the correct contact details and address at your organisation for everyone to send their donations and I will post that information on the forum. This year we haven't had much time to organise, being only one month until Damien's birthday. However, we hope to make this an annual project and also hope that over the years we can build this to become a truly significant donation to _________ Please contact me with any queries or so that we might discuss further. Kind regards, [shims]

Ok so edit to that part being: One of our members has contacted Eileen for a nomination of a chairty to support, we have had a reply from her and we have been in touch with that charity. Shims ... what time will you ring them tomorrow and what time will you post? Maybe after we know the details I can put them into the email before sending it off?

Thank you both for being my friends on Myspace. That is a very good letter Shimms. Neski, yes you did need a bit of proof reading. Para,2 I believe that this charity has already been contacted by one of our members Para 3 We would contribute our own money to this cause and see it as a chance to not only help charity but to help promote Damien Para 4 anxious now, due to the announcement of....and to see
I think that is how your email should be.

This is a great idea. I really like it. But I have a few concerns about it. I think we need a middle man. As it'd be a heap of work for the charity accept cash or cheques from 50 people. But One large cheque from the forum as a whole would go down well. Wel could even get a pic of Damien giving it to the founder or patron of the charity.
Also if this year is a success. You have an option to share this idea to the wider Damien Leith community. But that's our call I think. Do we want to make it special just from our forum. Or do we want to maximise the donations we can get.
Amd yeah Damien's a busy man so I think if he only had a little imput that'd be better. I'm not shuning him from this, but really we can organise this totally. And just let him know, this is our birthday present to him.
And I'll be glad to help out in this.

The reason I don't think it's a good idea to have a middleman from the forum is to keep it all accountable and totally auditable. However we can all do a lot to help this work by advertising the address to send donations, etc.
I'm still trying to get final details from the charity but will go with what they recommend as the best way to do it. As this is a very organised charity with a special fundraising department, I think they will have procedures for these sorts of collections.
