Jim, I know what you are saying, but if the charity is happy to have it come in in "dribs and drabs" , then its best to leave it that way. (can be quite exciting, particularly if they agree to send us regular updates of the growing total to post on here!)

Even with what I offerred with the ebay auction, I was still not wanting any money to come via me...but instead to set up a specific account with a checkout system that would ensure buyers pay the charity directly. (and my own donation would then be my time, the listing fees, final value fees, and packaging)

Shim, what I am not clear about ...when Special Olympics are saying they are organising an auction, do they mean an ebay one, or what?? or are they referring to this offer?? * a bit confused, which is a bit normal, but still...*

Christyl I think you are really coming up with some great workable ideas to get everyone's auction ideas happenning - I've PM'd you but basically what is happenninfg is that I will ask SO tomorrow further about doing an auction or if they want to wait until their official ones (they were mentioning about us maybe adding something to that).

So when I get a firm answer I'll get back here - however if we do go the eBay route, I think it may be great to get together on the charity thread to round up anyone who'd like to help discuss organising it. Neski I think the idea to go through David is the best and most direct and if I can figure out something tomorrow with SO we still might be in time for David to help us out before Damien goes away.

Otherwise, D will be back in the New Year and that would give us time in the meantime to organise how we're going to do it, then maybe have some things to auction even 2 weeks before the 18th, which is more than enough time for an eBay auction.

Either way, I think it's going to be a goer You're all brilliant for posting so many ideas, the more the better, it all helps us figure it out.

Neski I've just posted this in the

DONATION INFO for DAMIEN'S B'DAY CHARITY PROJECT thread - info directly from Monica from the Special Olympics as to how they'd like to run the auctions.

AUCTIONSMonica loved the idea of writing to Damien's manager to request items for an eBay auction. If she can hear from David (manager) the exact items which he may be able to forward for the auction, she can start setting up an auction site for them on eBay. She will put that the auction is for the Damien Leith Online Birthday Project 2007.

If David can send the items to Monica direct at the Special Olympics address above, it will be the most efficient method.

Therefore, Monica has requested ideally that David may be able to forward over to her direct some pictures of the items that will be donated so that she can start setting up the site, or if that is not possible yet, a simple description so she can start setting up the auction ready to go.

It is not necessary for David to send pictures if he is unable, when she receives the items she can have them photographed.

Monica suggests that bidding close on JANUARY 17 so she can add the total to the tally and be able to tell Damien, on his birthday, the total raised.

So Neski while it is not vital to have the items to Monica straight away, if she could be informed by David exactly what items may be donated it will help her to start setting up the auction into place.

Please let me know if you would like me to help you write the final letter to David to start this underway.

Just modified my auction post above before I go to make it clear that Monica from SO suggests that it will be most efficient if David can send her the items direct at her address at the SO (address at top of Donations thread in HQ) and that she will put that it is for the Damien Leith Online Birthday Project on the auction

Here I am yet again representing and speaking on behalf of the Damienites and Damien Leith Online.

We are wondering and hoping whether you could help us retrieve some autographed copies of various 'Damien Leith' items. These items being CD's, posters and even photographs.

Why do you ask, do we need these items?

We would all love to celebrate his birthday by giving a gift, a donation to a charity of Damien's choice.

One of our members has contacted Eileen for a nomination of a charity to support. We have had a reply from Eileen notifying us that Damien has been made a Special Ambassador to the Special Olympics Australia, a cause they have both supported in the past, and she has given us her blessing & permission to contribute donations in Damien's name towards that organisation. We have informed the Special Olympics that though we are not the Official Damien Leith Site, we are from the Original Fan Forum which started prior to that site, and we welcome all donations to the project from whoever may care to participate.

No one on the board is collecting ANY monies or items - all donations go directly to the Special Olympics. If there is any particular requirement you have regarding what we should name the project, please let us know - for now it has the working title of the “Damien Leith Online Birthday Project 2007”.

We would contribute our own money to this cause and see it as a chance to not only help charity but to help promote Damien. It is intended that this become an annual project which will grow over the years to become a significant contribution to the Special Olympics.

We would love to raise as many funds as possible and feel that through the auctioning of 'exclusive' signed Damien items we can enhance the amount raised. This being said, we are more than happy to organise payment for these items, that way you won't be at a loss.

Monica Smith, our point of contact from the Special Olympics, suggested we write to you, David, to request items for an eBay auction to coincide with the Birthday Project. Due to the announcement of Damien and family going to Ireland this Sunday, for promotion of Night Of My Life and to see family we are not left with a great deal of time to organise anything before he leaves.

We can not find any other way or chance to get these signed items at such short notice. However, if it is too short a notice to arrange any items at the moment, Monica has stated that she could at least set up the auction given an idea of what could be offered, and confirm final details upon Damien's return.

Would you please consider giving and/or selling us these requested autographed valuables (if possible signed before he leaves for Ireland), delivered directly to Monica at the Special Olympics address above?

All money raised through the selling of these items would go directly to the Special Olympics who are setting up the auction and, again, no money or items would be handled by any member of the Damienites.

Huge thanks for your wonderful Email.

Damien is thrilled to be involved with the Special Olympics and whilst this is NOT officially announced it is something very close to his heart.

Charities and programs like this are SO SPECIAL and therefore do require very careful support.

Can I suggest that I hand this initiative over to Catriona Barry from the Special Olympics team who will be far better placed than I to advise how the wonderful Damienites can help this amazing group of people,
