Shimmery, that is a brilliant idea and I'm sure Damien will be so chuffed to know that we would love to celebrate his bday with him in this way.
The way I see it, why not give something back to him after the magical experience he gave us all throughout Idol and will no doubt continue to do in the future? I just know he would think a charity event in his name would be a wonderful thing.
I'm there already : )

Will a different post be made about this once final preparations have been made?

Ozbrat - yes, what I'm planning on doing is making one locked post with all the details summarised so it will be really easy to follow for everyone, and leave this thread as the planning and discussion thread for ideas. Unfortunately being the weekend I have to wait until Monday to confirm some deatils with the organisiation but I've heard from Eils again and it's all going well - will post her message with all the details as soon as it's all ready in a new thread. Thanks everyone for supporting the idea!!

Hi everyone. Remember we talked the other day in another thread (sorry, can't find it now...!) about putting some ebay items on, and that I would be happy to do the listings (including making sure we have final approval from Damien and his management for the layout, etc)
I am trying to recall who was going to ask Damien's management about donating some signed posters, glossies etc...can you guys take a look at this as an example of what can be raised: (just enter the number in the search column, if you are unfamiliar with ebay)
Ebay item: 190060314888 Ebay item: 220052910817
So...even a few signed glossies and posters could make a fair bit. But we should move ASAP...ie: before Christmas. Ebay is dead for sellers a couple of weeks after Christmas, and if we were able to put on even a few signed CDs - say, with a personal message like "thank you for all your support, love Damien"...they would, I think be the perfect Christmas presents!...but even with a 3 day auction, one still needs to allow about 3-5 days for payment and postage, etc.
Now, this is how we alleviate concerns about the seller pocketing any of the funds:
...if the auction account is set up so that payment goes directly to the charity (and I set up that account so that the moderators, for example, have access to it anc can see what is happenning with it), then the ebay auction and ebay checkout after the auction ends can dictate the address to where payment is sent, etc...which means no handling of money for the person doing the selling at all and no suggestion that the money is being pocketed by the person doing the selling. (eg: myeslf)
Also..., the buyer usually pays for the postage as well as part of the auction payment, and I would suggest that my donation would be that all of the money goes directly to the charity, and I would post the item at my own expense (that would be my donation as well as my time, packing materials, etc).
So...do people like the sound of this??
And how are we going with getting in contact with Damien and his Manager? Can this be sped up at all??
(sorry if I seem pushy guys, but I've been selling long enough that I know how important timing is to sales).
I actually would not even have to have the items in my hands first, as long as someone who did have them could take really good photos and email them to me...

^ Holy crap those CDs sell quite a lot. Pity mine says 'Amy' otherwise I would be more than willing to donate it EDIT: Ooohh by the way, I know someone who can draw EXTREMELY well and I was wondering if I should commission her, and then ask Damien to sign it and put it in Ebay

PS. Another bonus about doing an ebay auction is that we can use the masthead and put a link to this forum in there as well...hehehe. Nothing like promotion..

Just yet another thought...things like signed CDs like I suggested could be listed with Buy It Nows of, say $150...and that way we could also process quite a few through because mad fans - we know the type, don't we! - would just snap them up.
