I arrived in plenty of time at the GP, wandered around for a bit, took some shotsof the *ahem* motor vehicles (Very Difficult!), then made my way to the stage area. Found a good front possie where I could be guaranteed some great shots of the performance. Fiddled around setting up my camera, then hundreds of schoolkids showed up and parked next to me.
Well, not wanting to give up my perfect shooting spot, I made it clear to the little darlings that this was MY space and they had better not get in my way..hehe..they got the mesage!
Enter Damien, right on cue! smiling and waving, in great spirits. (WR..TBSOH!!!!)..
First song Never Meant to Fail, followed by NOML,Wicked Game,and finally With or Without You (as a singalong for the kiddies) .All acoustic, may I add..bliss!
As I am snapping away, I pause to throw Damien the rose I managed to bring with me..yes, gj, sans thorns
. It doesn't quite make the stage, a large gap being between the security fence and it. A kindly photographer picks it up and gives it to D. he smiles and says, "ahh, look, how nice." The kids go OFF!
They continue to go off for the rest of the performance, at the end of which, D leaps athletically from the high stage and proceeds to sign autographs and shake hands..kids come from everywhere and I am seriously afraid for my safety..and the safety of my camera equipment!
Obviously, I make it out of there alive, and wander off slowly towards the exit after D has disappeared.
This is where things get really interesting.
