Ps the audience was just roaring with laughter in parts of the Helen Clark take off, and HUGE applause for Billy Elliot and that mime artist - fantastic.

Unfortunately Damien didn't win the award he was nominated for (Best Australian Contemporary Concert) David Campbell took out the honour. Damien looked fabulous tonight as Roxy has already mentioned and he sang 22 Steps perfectly, it was beautiful. He did look a little nervous but who can blame him. Ah well done anyway Damien, that was brilliant to be nominated - and sounds like he did a beautiful performance!

He was nominated in 2 categories. How did he go in the other category? I can't get the Helpmann site up. It is just blank when I click on the 2007 winners. Maybe I should try it again after 9am istead of 3.30 am

I think the other award that Damien was up for was Best Australian Contemporary Concert, that award went to Melbourne International Arts Festival and Arts House.

Yes, I thought he looked really well again last night, and just loved that arrangement he gave the song - he always keeps developing his music and keeps it fresh, loved the way he did that with NoML as well for the concerts

Thanks GJ. I too loved the way Damien varied his interpretation of 22 Steps. It is proof of a true artist when they can change their style at will. Damien is certainly not robotic as his presentations are always interesting and unpredictable

It was a real honour for Damien to be even nominated for these awards, I'm guessing he's the first AI graduate who has been nominated! I can only second the above comments. Damien is one of the rare performers whose live performances are even better than his recorded music! He has such a fabulous heart, and that really shows live!! When he played in Perth recently, I remember he started to play NOML and commented something like "You might recognise it, anybody know what this song is?", but it sounded so different with him playing the intro, that even I couldn't recognise it until he began singing!!! I was never a massive fan of that song, but I love listening to that live version, same with 22 Steps from that concert, even though he had a slightly husky voice that night!

Thanks GJ. He really is better live and I always love his acoustic versions of his songs. And he really did look hawt.
