Another wonderful experience
Damien sang himself to the limit.
Damien started with "Cold Cold Heart" - the whole band and later did a heavier rock version of "
22 Steps" and it really had a great edge to it. "
Beautiful" was also arranged somewhat differently -I don't know how exactly, but it still worked (loved the keyboards)
... "
All I Want Is You" was fun and heartfelt,"
Shine like the Sun" - clapping but no sing-a-long this time - a good thing cause the crowd was pretty inhibited... conservative?
mostly. So the audience participation, in general, was reduced to more simple stuff, which worked pretty well with a fair bit of coaxing from the enthusiastic singer up front...and participate they did, despite themselves
I'm forgetting some songs - not because they don't stand out but just because the feeling after the concert is so overwhelmingly sublime that I get jelly brain
But there was also I Still Miss us (loved the cello), The Long Way Back (full band effect, great guitars - Yay! drums with brother Darren getting to use some muscle). I love hearing the acoustic session where the band leaves Damien to just play his guitar. His voice is just beautiful.
Special occasion for the Leith family with Jagger's first ever concert... lucky baby... Daddy looked to the back of the auditorium and sang
Not Just For the Weekend straight to him - upstairs in the mezzanine level as Mum stood up cradling and rocking him. So gorgeous
Later, toddler older brother Jarvis did a little walkabout at the base of the stage to the delight of the front tables and Damien. His "Hi Jarvis" had no impact on the adventurer on the floor leaving dad to say "Ignore me, why don't you! Haha!!" It was very much a family show with many more grandparents, and families with younger kids, I'd say, than the other shows.
Hats off to the ladies on the side and a smattering of others who could cheer, move their chairs to stand up, do 'Touchdowns!' and generally make some noise!!!!
Damien's twinkly smiles at you, in appreciation, couldn't be missed.
There were of course, the songs from TWJ that people expect and he didn't disappoint us with his renditions. Damien really gets the blood stirring with Crying, Hallelujah, Wicked Game (sigh), Night of My Life. Damien's such an all round performer - musically, of course but amusing banter between songs and a lovely sense of humour.
He rattled off a number of "good news" items to much applause from the audience, including these to look forward to:
- the newly repackaged double cd Special Edition of WWL, with 5 bonus Christmas songs (available now)
-The song, NJFTW, is to be the theme song of the a new TV series coming out in February
- Damien will host that show!
Yes, Damien's not one to rest on his laurels! But it's time to rest that voice before Tassie, SA and WA.
Thanks for an incredible concert experience, Damien. I can't wait for the next ones
