It's the one song from "The Winner's Journey" I can't stop watching and listening to. There is something so simplistic and beautiful about Damien's arrangement of this Split Enz classic, and he conveys so much emotion with just a piano keyboard and his voice. Pure perfection!

...and when he sings "warm in a lover's embrace" with that little twinkle in his eye and smile on his lips. Ah, it's addictive. I can't stop watching it either. There's a great bit in there where Marcia is just sitting with her head back and eyes closed, taking it all in. It's such a great song, and the version he did on Sunrise was amazing as well...Good taste Sunshine!

I agree! This song deserved a touchdown - I couldn't understand the negative comments he received from some of the judges - it was truly beautiful... one of my top three!!!

Ive always loved this song so much, and this has special meaning to my bf and I as well - so we adore Damien's version!! I hold the original in the highest esteem, and to love this equally says VOLUMES about how much I love Damien's music!

I remember Mark and Kyle both being critical of it, for some stupid reason.
And, I love watching Marcia on the DVD: she's the only one of those judges who stuck with Damien from the start, and for that, I'm even more of a Marcia fan.

I'v been saying for ages that this was my favouritefrom the series but couldn't find anyone else who agreed with me. I think it was the fact that it was virtually falsetto free - just a simple "from the heart" performance - and I reckon he glances at Eileen when he sings that line "warm in a lovers embrace". Whenever this one comes on in the car I have to hit repeat and listen to it again. I'd say it is the most played of all the tracks in my house. Does anyone know if you can dowload the performance he did on Sunrise of this song? I set my recorder before I left that morning but the tape ran out b4 8.30. I was in the queue when he sang it and I raced round to the window and caight the last bit but I would love to watch the whole thing

Oh goodness, I love it too. It's the 4th most played song on my iTunes list and my most played Damien song to date. The judges weren't actually too critical of his performance, except for Mark's stupid comments about his piano playing, but I've no idea how he didn't get a touchdown that night. The feeling and the warmth in his vocals was really touching, and I think watching that was the first time we really got to appreciate just how beautiful his voice is without even needing the extra 'kick' the falsetto provides. The moment where they show Marcia with her eyes closed is beautiful. Although personally I couldn't have taken my eyes off him!

i still haven't watched the DVD and i can't remember what the judges said for this song. was it that val doonicgoogoo thing? I love this song. damn it now its stuck in my head again.

the thing about Damien is that he interprets songs so well, that you hear the song in a new light and start to believe all the words....and then you fall in love *sigh*

I love this song almost as much as Creep, I love the significance it has for him and Eileen, you can feel it in the air with every word he sings!
And when I saw him at the piano on that song (the tv reception cut out when I was watching Sky), I positively melted into a heap on the carpet *swoon*
I heard the original on the radio recently for the first time, I heard the opening bars and went "Damien, yay!" It was a shock when it wasn't him! His version is slower, far more intimate and dreamy!

I've been a huge CH/SE fan forever and thought that nothing could compare to Neil Finn singing this.
But when I saw his beautiful shy smile looking at the camera over the piano, my heart just melted!
This arrangement has kept me smiling for many a week - I just look at his little smile when he sings " now I wake up and I'm happy" and my heart just flips cause I believe him! He's happy!
Love it, love it, love it!
