Cool! I get to start an appreciation thread! This was so cool - I'd only heard the original once - someone (I can't remember who, thanks!) posted a link to a You Tube vid with it as background music and I listened to it on Sunday afternoon, so I didn't have time to fall in love with the original. To be honest, I haven't heard it since This was great though - with the guitar! Acoustic is good! - There was an unexpected high note in about the third line, it was beautiful, the first high note of the night and it just came out of nowhere, just as well I was sitting down or I would've been in a heap on the floor! The ending was great - a rather Chris Murphy-esque rock ending, with the now characteristic leg-kick on the end! Very nice, probably the rockest thing he did! Loved it!

That one works better for me on the DVD: Damien is enjoying really rocking out! It indicates to me Damien could do a few great rock type songs on the upcoming debut album. The original was sung by Alex Lloyd!

Yeah, I feel this one was a D-style one, kinda similar in tone & sound to These Days and Bigger Plan, my two fav Damien originals! Alex Lloyd really suits him. Of course, he doesn't have to sing other people's songs now!

Hoping to see some of this action when he tours! He looks like he was having a brilliant time...

I LOVE NMTF...it shows D's rockier side. I prefer his version to the original (though the original is really good...!) and wish he'd been able to do the full length version (as I do with all D's performances on Idol!) I love the lyric (OK..D can't take credit for that) and I think him doing NMTL on the last night probably got him some votes from some people who appreciated the more contemporary feel and wouldn't have voted for another (beautiful) slow tempo / older song. This one goes through my mind all day (and my 2 preschoolers can hum/sing along to it too!) LOVED the leg kick ending too

Ah yes... this was the famed pirate song! I loved NMTF because, to me, it was so different to anything he'd done before on the show before, and watching him do that was the first time I really thought, 'Hey, he'd do really well solo at a concert!' It was so great that on the final night Damien chose to sing songs by two known singer-songwriters - that's the kind of thing he wants to do and he pulled it off brilliantly.

I think NMTF was his best song on all of idol. And his version is almost identical to the version of it on the Brand New Day single (Alex Lloyd). Both are just brilliant. And when I have my itunes on random I sometimes can't tell the difference between the versions. The clapping helps but otherwise they are a dead heat.
If his new album is like that track (and not like the rest of Alex Lloyd's self titled album) I'd wait in line 6 hours to get it. That'd rock so much.
