As long as no one from Sony BMG tries to get rid of this site or posts subliminal "you love Dean" messages, I'm happy to stay here!

This site should now be called the "Official Forum for Friendly, Loveable, Huggable Damienites"

I think the official forums will settle down after a few weeks/months and you'll start finding that the friendly, loveable and huggable people will be mostly all that's left. I feel a bit awkward over there too at the moment but I'm going to stick with it and at least show a positive, friendly presence over there, and it will feel more natural over time. At least I know you guys when I'm over there, so it's not as daunting as entering a forum full of relative strangers! Ah, forums are funny things.

Hey,
A question. Should I pick a forum to post on. The official one or here? Or post on both? And what are the pros and cons of each way?

Hey, A question. Should I pick a forum to post on. The official one or here? Or post on both? And what are the pros and cons of each way? Jim, I think that is completely up to you! We all know the official forum is going to be huge, and in reality it will probably be the one that D has most contact with. Its a lovely site, and it has some great info on there already. I am sure that it will grow at an astonishing pace and be a great community. But to me this place still feels like home - my friends are here, and I know it well. Neski and murfs set this up when everyone was saying "Damien who?", and I feel a very strong loyalty to it. We also have no restrictions as such with what we can post here..I'm not sure if we are ever going to run into trouble on the official board posting YouTube links etc. This place is also a celebration and testament to D and his fans during the Idol journey...I would really like to keep that alive. I do think that if people feel they need to choose they will choose the official forum, especially after D makes his first post there (sony always gets their artists to do that...watch for it!). And I think if that happens, and everyone stops posting here, then this forum will die. Simple as that. Personally, I'm going to continue posting on both sites while they are both fun and active. Its a little tricky..I'm going to try to not "cross post" if you know what I mean, as that can make for slightly dull reading, though its bound to happen in cases. I really want to feel free to support D by whatever means there are...I'm also a member of his LJ community too! I dont want to have to make a choice at this stage. And I really hope people dont feel as though they have to make some sort of sudden and dramatic choice either...why not play it by ear for while? See what feels right? I also dont want there to be any division between the fans on where they are going to post...that is happening at the moment with Chris Murphys fan base and it sounds like hell. Fan site vs. Official Site. And no-one wins! At this stage I would like to see the 2 forums exist happily side by side. I think that D fans on the whole are really awesome and mature, and I think its entirely possible to make this work! But ultimately...I guess you follow your heart and post where you feel most comfortable. These forums we have are for supporting D and his career, but also for fun...never let it not be fun!

Just to rant on a little bit longer.... I posted oh about 4 times and nobody replied to any of my posts over there..... I got to feel really lonely and there were lots of names that I didn't know and they were all posting all the same kind of stuff I've read here - so it got pretty boring To sum up - it was lonely and boring over there - PLEASE DON"T MAKE ME LEAVE HERE - IT"S MY NEW HOME I'm also suffering from post "Damien on Idol" blues - someone hug me please *sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaazzzzze* More big hugs for you

Great post Winterlong I think there is always space for fan forums as well as official ones, and pretty much a need for it too. All forums are slightly different and the tone often depends on who runs them. I think in the long run you'll probably end up with a happy fan community here, people are drawn to the kindness and warmth that is shown here. Official forums have their place too, but it will probably be a little more structured. It will be good for media and updates. But I think you'll find that this is where the heart is

Yeah, I love the points you've made Winter. I'm also trying not to just post the same things over there and then here, but to join in conversation wherever I feel I have something to say, on either forum. The conversations on the two forums are quite different at the moment, so I don't have a problem with taking some extra time to visit both. I don't have any plans to choose one over the other. It is good for Damien to have two forums because it shows just how popular he is! I'm sure Damien, though he may not be able to post here as much (if at all) any more, would not want this place to die, but at the same time I think he would be pleased that we're signing up to the official thing as well. The fact that this place pre-dates the official forum is cool! And I think perhaps as we go, we'll find more things we can do to make this place stand on its own merits. The warmth and intelligence of this community is more than enough reason to try to keep it alive, in my opinion. And on the official forum I think we'll always be thinking a lot more carefully about what we say because of who might be watching to slap us down, while here it's easier for people to just come out with it. It's all about supporting Damien (as well as hanging out with some great people, of course) and for that reason I intend to say nice things about him in as many places as I can find.
