I really like that person! So many lovely things said... "He doesn't 'work' an audience so much as carry on an intimate private conversation with a song and invite the audience in. The end result is musicianship of the highest order." *warm fuzzies* Yes - beautifully said

Do you know what, that is the most perfect description of D. It made me a bit teary because it's so true and beautiful. Damien puts his heart and soul into the music, and we share the journey with him! xx

I didn't like the physicality descriptions of Jess and Damien either, but I have always thought the same about the talent side. "buck-toothed" wtf??

I got goose bumps reading this, especially this part.. That is just SO true. He captivates his audience. He's amazing!

tell me about it... I was in the same boat and had to listen to these 'great intellects' chirp about Nessun Dorma too - what they failed to understand (and what this blog expressed so well) was that classically trained artists may not have had any chance of performing a convincing "Creep" or "Wicked Game" - Damien can do the lot, and not in an average way but in a superior way!
I also loved the part about the performances being a private conversation with a song and the audience invited in to the intimacy of them - I think that's why Damien's performances are so memorable and reached so many. When performing live he does have that talent to reach out - but his ability to allow the audience in is what I think will ultimately make him interntaionally acclaimed. We are so lucky to be able to see such a performer!

The cool thing about 'Nessun Dorma' was that someone with no prior opera training completely nailed it, even the high notes. The bit I loved the most was the look on his face after he'd belted out that last bit. That's the great thing about Damien's voice: its versatility. He can apply it successfully to so many musical genres. ;D

The bit I loved the most was the look on his face after he'd belted out that last bit. That's one of my most favourite moments throughout the entire series. He was so overwhelmed with what he just did, it was wonderful to watch! ;D

I loved that too - you can see that Damien gave that 110% of all he had in him and it was awe-inspiring to see him do that, and anyone who knocks Nessun Dorma makes me feel like this

I was perhaps thinking of Big Brother, which is another subject altogether. ;D Like Jamie? Loved this blog, this writer just says it all so well...particularly the part about inviting people into the song... Damien can definitely inspire people to write. I had never done one before in my life, but was so cranky about the stuff that was being posted on the AI boards that I wanted somewhere to rant...so started my own blog with that rant as the first posting..lol. If people are REALLY bored, my comments on the "not Australian" criticism is here: christyloz.blogspot.com/2006/11/on-damien-leith-and-being-australian.htmloh...and I am afraid that BB lost me for good - if it ever really had me! - when a certain funny intelligent journalist lost out last year to a double serve of beefcake........*sigh* ...the death of the thinking man's vote.........

"The cool thing about 'Nessun Dorma' was that someone with no prior opera training completely nailed it, even the high notes." Sunshine, I so agree! I actually think he did an amazing job of it. Not only no prior opera training but only a couple of weeks to learn it and perform it so damn well! I don't agree with the physical description of Damien at all. He's gorgeous, not to mention seductive! However, some people just seem to be limited in their ability to see clearly. They are looking for something classical whereas I, and probably most of my fellow Damienites, have much more sophisticated tastes! He's right about the fact that Damien has the power to turn every performance into an intimate experience for his audience.
