Maternal Support
Damien's mum, Angela, is cheering him on from country Kildare in Ireland
Are the family getting a chance to watch the show?
Our neighbour's sister is a school teacher in Australia and she hooked up a webcam from her computer to her TV and sends it to us. Sometimes you only hear noise, but theres still the thrill of feeling like you're there. The neighbours and the rest of the family come around. It comes through at 10.30am on Sunday, so it's not a time when you can have a glass of wine in your hand, but it's just brilliant.
What do you think of Mark Holden and his comments about Damien being ugly?
If I could get my hands on him, I would choke him! No, I don't really mean that. He's... I better not say.
Tell us what Damien was like when growing up?
He was a contradiction in terms of school; he was in musicals, then at night he would practise with a grunge band.
What has the reaction been like in Ireland?
My daughter got on the radio and said, "Look, there's an Irishman in Austrlian Idol, and would you ask your listeners, if they have any Australian friends, to give him a vote if you think he's worth it?" Two days later the DJ checked out the wensite and played Damien singing. That started the ball rolling and it got great interest. People were calling the station saying, "Let us know how he gets on."
Will you come to Austrlia if he goes further in the competition?
The whole family was ther ein December and spent a month there... but of course we'd come. I don't think he could stop us from going over if he got close to the final.
Is there anything you want to say to voters?
I hope the Australian people realise that I've lost my son to Austrlia, so they should back him because we really miss him here.
Toothy Grin
A lot has been said by the judges about Damien's teeth, and the TV WEEK readers' opinions are divided, with 51 per cent of you saying that his teeth are OK the way they are, and 49 per cent saying he needed some work.
Curious to see how the dental work would change Damien's looks we indulged in a little digital tampering. As you can see, it's not a drastic change!
"Damien has always been a bit funny about his teeth," Damien's wife, Eileen, tells. "The great thing is that a dentist has been in touch with Idol and offered to take care of his teeth for him. Damien is going to look into it and said, 'Hey, if I get it for free, why not?'"
*NOTE: piccies will be up tomorrow - otherwise I will kick my own butt!*
