lol winterlong, the Irish language is delightfully filled with unexpected sounds - the letters don't quite mean what they do in English, the Irish language was lucky to be kept alive, the words were transcribed as best they could be into English in the 1800s I think but essentially it was a spoken language. Mum can speak a bit of Irish and I can speak a teeny bit, but learning it is quite a challenge to say the least if you don't grow up with it! I have a similar experience with my mothers language - I wasnt taught as a child, and after 3 years of haphazardly starting to learn it I'm about ready to give up. Its the sounds that I cant get right, as there are some that just arent present in the English language! So my pronounciation is very dodgy, and when I try to practice with my mother she just laughs and laughs - it sounds so crazy to her, like someone putting on a very funny voice! Me + Languages =
