AUSTRALIAN Idol finalist Jessica Mauboy has spoken of a crisis meeting to resolve "weird" tensions among her fellow contestants.
"It was the pressure, which some of us could handle and some of us couldn't," Mauboy, 17, said ahead of next Sunday's Idol final at the Sydney Opera House.
"We needed to let it out. It was weird. (Up until then) we had all been really chatty and had stuck together, talking about everything, and it just stopped."
The atmosphere in the luxury house in Sydney's north where the idols were living turned unusual after big-haired singer-songwriter Bobby Flynn's exit last month.
Mauboy said the finalists, juggling new friendships in a competitive atmosphere, found it difficult to communicate.
"It started after we were all spread out to our own corners of the house doing (phone) interviews," she said.
"We weren't used to it and it really got to us. What we needed was to sit down and talk it through (together), which some of us did.
"Tensions subsided after a few days," Mauboy, from Darwin, said.
Irish-born singer-songwriter Damien Leith, 30, Mauboy's competitor in the Idol final, disagreed.
"There's no (tension)," he said. "It's been a good vibe, for 12 people from different backgrounds and with different personalities." Mauboy said she had suffered bouts of self-doubt on her journey to the final.
"The other day I was getting scared, my throat was going and I wondered if my mind was playing tricks on me.
"I freaked out. It was my meltdown," she said.
