www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,20908833-5006002,00.html 12th Man comes in first againIRISH Idol Damien Leith must be cursing the vernacular of his adopted country after he was Boned! by 12th Man genius Billy Birmingham on the ARIA charts this week. Proving Aussies really do prefer sport over music, The 12th Man convincingly claimed the No.1 spot over Leith's The Winner's Journey. Comedic impersonator Birmingham's first album in five years, Boned! knocked U2 back to No.2 and outsold the compilation of Leith's Idol performances (No.3) by more than 28,000 copies as the Christmas CD spree kicked off. "I am thrilled that the unbelievably loyal 12th Man audience think I have, once again, achieved the level of stupidity and silliness on the Boned! album that they have come to expect from me," Birmingham told music writer Kathy McCabe yesterday. "However, the bloke from Idol calling his album Bone Idol, and U2 hastily changing the name of their album to Bonoed is disappointing and seems like a desperate attempt to get some sales by default." No wonder he's number one. [ed: tee hee]

And from the Herald Sun: www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,20910290-28957,00.html Damien Leith would be smiling when he saw his album, The Winner's Journey, at No. 3. The album was only released for two days of the week and sold an impressive 18,433.

Well if you multiply 18,433 by 3.5 to make it over 7 days, then Damien would have beaten Boned!

LOL "the bloke from Idol calling his album Bone Idol" - very funny!
You can see why the 12th man always debuts well.
There arent too many Aussie comedy albums around and combine that with sport - you have a winner.
Damien has done brilliantly with this debut in this company.

When I was at the airport in Melbourne yesterday, I went by sanity (as a matter of duty) and Damo's Winners Journey was at the number one spot there.

I have a confession to make.... I bought 2nd copy of Winners Journey yesterday but before Christmas I will be buying Boned. Hubby has the others in the series so I can't deprive him of this one can I . Do you think I should wait a week and see what happens with Damiens album on the charts? Otherwise the sale would cancel each other out.

hmm...Maybe the result also reflects the demographics...ie: more women buying the 12 man CD as a present for their cricket mad hubbies (with apologies to cricket mad women on here:), and less men who buy Damien's CD for their wives. (yes, I know...a lot of men love Damien, but look at the front row at the Blacktown pics...lol..)

'Convincingly', eh? That just proves (yet again) that the media doesn't always check their facts. And call me a bad sport (which I am on a whole lot of levels), but I've heard funnier jokes in Robbie Williams songs. Give me Ray Stevens any day.

I have decided to buy Boned from Sanity since I believe their figures still don't count toward the Arias. My other Winners Journey DVD's have been bought from Aria places. If anyone disagrees with me make sure you let me know.

I thought that Sanity and HMV were back to counting for the charts this week? At least, I remember someone here saying that... I'm not convinced myself. It's all too confusing...
