Idol nudges out 12th manAlex Murdoch December 20, 2006 11:00pm WE predicted it would be a battle of the titans when Australian Idol king Damien Leith went head-to-head with cricket comedian Billy Birmingham for the ARIA album top spot. Idols traditionally snag the No. 1 spot after their first full week of sales, while the 12th Man has his own tradition – with each of his seven albums blitzing the crowd just in time for Christmas. Well, Damo won the battle, kicking Billy off the top spot after just one week. Random Notes believes Billy won't be too devastated, however, after Boned went four times platinum – sold more than 280,000 copies – this week. Damo also has the singles top spot stitched up with Night Of My Life , beating out fellow Idol graduate Shannon Noll in his duet Don't Give Up with Rogue Traders' star Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Apparently it's the first time Aussies have both the top two spots on the singles and albums charts. Although at this point it may be prudent to point out that the charts are actually controlled by store CD orders rather than actual sales. www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,20957771-5003421,00.html

Thanks for this, Dede. Uh... isn't that the platinum accreditations that are controlled by orders and not the actual charts? Bonus points for actually acknowledging Damien as an Aussie though.
