Damien Leith to become Irish Idol?www.videohits.com.au/music_news.php#733Posted On Tuesday, December 12 2006 Australian Idol winner, Damien Leith, is set to make waves in his homeland of Ireland after his debut single 'Night Of My Life' hit radio stations there last week. SonyBMG in Ireland have signed Leith and have confirmed that they will release the single later this month. In between his Australian commitments, Leith will be doing a fleeting promotional tour in Ireland to promote the single and will spend Christmas at home ahead of starting work on his debut album in early 2007. In Australian news, 'Night Of My Life' has notched up a second week at the top of the ARIA singles charts as well as a debut entry at number three for Leith's CD/DVD release 'The Winner's Journey'. The CD/DVD was only on sale for two days last week (being released mid week) and still managed a top 5 debut.

Cool! How does being signed in two separate countries work? It must be bittersweet for him, considering he tried to make it in Ireland with the family band and nothing ever came of it. How must it feel to have left Ireland, having failed to achieve your dream, then come back, a superstar in another country, everyone knowing your name and wanting to know you all of a sudden? I hope he's able to spend quiet time with his family and visit the places he used to without being hassled too much over his new found fame. On the other hand, I hope everyone in Ireland now appreciates his talent and treats him with the respect as a performer that he deserves.

Cool! How does being signed in two separate countries work? It all depends upon the terms of the contract with SonyBMG. Basically, the original contract could have been worldwide or it could have been restricted to certain countries or it could have granted options. Perhaps they have a clause giving them the option to sign him outside Australia, or to do so via another member of the SonyBMG Group.
