IT'S a fickle business being on the celebrity A lista - one minute you're in, the next you're wiping tables at a fast-food restaurant.
So who's hot and who's not in the Australian entertainment world for 2007?
RISING STARS:
Jamie Durie: Oprah Winfrey's new favourite trowel man is making it big in the US. We never would have picked it back in his Manpower days, but then, who would have?
Hugh Jackman: Definitely gets our vote for the nicest ex-pat in Aussiewood. He notched up six flicks last year. He has another four in production, including Baz Luhrmann's Australia, and new production company Seed to work on. Hope he's eating his Weetbix.
Bindi Irwin: There's the croc hunting, her own television series, the Bindi KidFitness brand and very big footsteps to follow in. However, you feel about this little one, Bindi Irwin is a name you'll be hearing for many years to come.
Daniel MacPherson: Welcome back, Dan. We didn't really dig the panto/The Bill/British thing you had going for a while, but Tripping Over was quality. Let's hope Ten commissions a second series.
Khan Chittenden (and the cast of new Fox8 series Dangerous): He's heading to Sundance with new flick Clubland and he's got a John Edwards television series under his belt. This kid is definitely going places.
Sam Moran: One big piece of that multi-million-dollar pie just got served up for Moran, the replacement yellow Wiggle. We bet he's not complaining.
Dannii Minogue: Maybe, just maybe, with her new Australia's Got Talent judging role, Dannii has found a place for herself where she won't be compared unfavourably with her big sis.
Nathan Sapsford: We bet this former MTV VJ was mighty happy the night Axle Whitehead flashed his crotch to the ARIA audience. The 28-year-old Sydneysider scored the dream hosting job on Video Hits after Whitehead departed.
Fifi Box: A great chick and a great talent. We'll be sad to see her go to Sydney this year, but scoring the breakfast slot up there was a big coup.
Hamish and Andy: These guys just couldn't be stopped last year, and we predict their stars will rise even further this year.
Erin McNaught: The beauty queen has been spending her time in Jen Hawkins' shadow, but a new gig on late-night tech show Cybershack could be just what the doctor ordered.
Damien Leith: Fans went berserk for The Winner's Journey, and that was just the cobbled-together, let's-capitalise-on-Christmas album. It will be very interesting to see if the hype continues for the proper Leith album release.
Angus Sampson: Kicking off the year with Thank God You're Here, this local boy then landed a dream job on big-budget flick Where the Wild Things Are and befriended Hollywood It director Spike Jonze. Next up, he plays Ugly Dave Gray on the Graham Kennedy telemovie, and then he's in film When She Gets There, alongside Vince Colosimo and Cassandra Magrath.
FALLING STARS:
Lara Bingle: Plenty of nightclub and bar promo appearances on the horizon for this one.
Krystal Forscutt: They may still care about her scantily clad bosom in Sydney, but this 15-minute-of-famer should be preparing herself for anonymity - a whole new BB crew will be on our screens soon.
Craig "Lowie" Lowe: In 2006, the Austereo Top 20 Countdown guy learnt the hard way not to believe your own hype. Radio execs don't like it.
Kate DeAraugo: Nice girl, points for trying, but she could take some tips from the Irishman.
Kyle Sandilands: Now that Dicko is returning to his old post on Oz Idol, just what does vile Kyle think he'll be doing? And don't even get us started on the newlyweds reality series. Uggh.
Bec Hewitt: Her not-so-engaging hosting on AbbaMania sealed the deal. Stick to motherhood, Bec.
Laura Csortan: One victim of the great TV industry re-shuffle that we'd like to see make a comeback.
UNKNOWN QUANTITIES:
Ian Thorpe: Will the big fish make a splash in the entertainment world this year or just live it up in LA?
Naomi Robson: Dancing with the Stars could make it or break it for this unfairly maligned TV identity.
Erica Baxter: Well, marrying the richest man in the country shouldn't hurt a singing career should it?
Toby Rand: He's a hottie, no doubt about it. But will Rand's national tour as the support act for Supernova in March translate to chart success?
Erika Heynatz: Leaving her cushy Australia's Next Top Model hosting job for the big wide world of music was risky. But we haven't heard her album yet. Will it be musical genius or another offering for the bargain bin?
Katie Fischer: We love her. She's adorable in a bizarre kind of way. But will hosting Top 40 Celebrity Countdown lead to bigger and better things this year?
